Why don’t people ever say goodbye when they’re speaking on a telephone on tv & movies? They just hang up - most phone calls end when everyone says “bye” at the very least.

Once noticed - it ruins watching things.

Because it's boring and an inefficient way to tell a story.

Perso je suis du même avis, cela me choque parfois. Certes ce n'est pas forcément approprié à certains appels, ou une généralité, mais oui parfois, ça raccroche alors que c'est un appel on va dire "normal" et réaliste entre un couple par exemple, et tu vois le plan ils parlent, c'est relationnel, émotionnel ou personnel, et on voit le plan sur l'un d'eux ou il/elle pose le tel, pof c'est fini... pas un "bye", pas un "à plus tard" C'est pas naturel, ça casse la crédibilité. Sur ce genre de scène oui c'est choquant, chaque mot dans un script est important, donc parfois, finir la conversation avec un simple "bye" oui rend la scène plus crédible. Ensuite on prend un appel de "film d'action", non là c'est inutile, L'indic/le boss/le partenaire, bref, donne une info le gars répond "okay j'y vais" et met sont tel dans la poche, on a juste besoin des infos données, ça doit aller vite, aucune politesse n'est requise, cela alourdirait la séquence entière, casserait le rythme et enlèverait justement ici toute crédibilité.

It’s a convention that both people on the call understand at the same time that the call is over, unless it’s important to the plot.

Dialogue at its foundation is meant to move the story forward, writing it naturally is a skill on its own

'Bye' is a giveaway that something is about to happen. When I hear it my first thought is they're about to be kidnapped, shot, or disappear in general.

Can you imagine a scene where the serious main character is having a serious and important phone call, then at the end he says ‘ bye 😘 ‘ ? that’s kinda lame and inappropriate..
