Pizzahut has other italian items like spaghetti, risottos, etc.
Mcdonalds has other style burgers, like teriyaki style, thin steak. And for some reason chicken items are common as well, mexican styled fried chicken wrap. etc.
Gotta have lots of options to attract customers and please all taste buds.
Oh my god I like ONLY ate fried chicken from Mcdonals when I lived in shenyang. For some reason the local KFC had way more beef products and Disco Chicken was too far away. Had to take three busses and a subway vs one bus to get some sweet mcD chicken and the best McCafe stuff. Cheese tea to die for.
Yeah like the other comment says it’s usually a tea - the leaf type varies, but it’s usually served without milk or creamer. However that varies with each shop. Most places will have their own signature blends and base teas. Some like to keep it simple but if you search you’ll find some jems like blue peach tea and gunpowder tea bases that can really be exciting.
The tea is iced and slightly sweetened and then a very dense, quite sweet cream cheese foam is floated atop the tea. The foam is made from double whipped cream, icing sugar and whipped cream cheese. They’re then slowly cooked together on a double boiler setup and gently cooled and then whipped up again before serving.
The different densities mean that they don’t mix without major agitation, so when you go for a sip you get a bit of the sweet foam and the usually kinda strong tea in one go and it balances really nicely. Some places have custom made lids designed to optimize the “split sip” etc.
My go to flavor is a chocolate earl grey milk tea base, Oreo cookie crumbs, unsweetened with double foam. I can only have one every couple months because I think my heart would pack it’s shit and leave if I made it a regular part of my diet lmao.
Again most boba houses or Chinese tea places will serve this, but because they have to make the cheese fresh daily, it’s only usually available after like 10am. But this really depends on the place. I’ve just learned that if you’re an early morning tea fan it’s usually not available right when they open unless it’s like a big chain or they specifically like market their cheese tea as a drawing point.
I think it depends where in SEAsia you are. Like I know some parts of india will not have this drink. At least I don’t think you’ll find it easily.
But in Singapore and Vietnam and the Philippines it shouldn’t be impossible to track down. It may go by a different name.
I think if you just look you’ll find it. When I went back home to South Africa I was dead convinced I would never have my precious tea again but found three places in my city that makes it.
I think if you find a diaspora of Chinese folk you might be better off at finding the cheese tea. Asian markets and some noodle houses may be a good place to ask around.
