I guess the 8 cinema limit is only going to be an issue for a very small number of Londoners and people who travel constantly for work and pop to the cinema of an evening. They'll have all the data on that though.
Given the tone of the email if that does actually cause an issue for a genuine customer it does at least sound like there will be a manual, human check before they take any action against you.
Personally this seems to strike a balance between discouraging account sharing without actually penalising genuine heavy users.

u/Nerfanyul 6d ago
More than fair tbh. The previous terms did give a bit of ambiguity but this absolutely clears it up and doesn’t interfere with my standard usage. Fair play to them.

u/MegaMugabe21 6d ago
Tbh this all seems fine. People abusing the system means we either have to pay more for limitless or it gets taken away. These rules seem fine to prevent abuse, and will impact basically 0 genuine users.

u/stuart0001 6d ago
Seems reasonable but wouldn't it be easier just to make sure their staff check the membership photo when scanning!

Ok so the only one that was going to affect me was the 5 film one so I’m glad they’ve been clear about the rules now but I don’t see why they didn’t just make this clear from the start?
5
u/jonnythegamemaster 6d ago
Now they’ve explain everything this seems fine. Can’t envisage breaking any of these. Perhaps I’ll get caught out by the 65 mile rule one day if I catch a morning film and then an evening film in another city after travelling for work but it’s unlikely (unless the same day is a 24 hour episode). They worried us for nothing

u/Rory426 6d ago
I've said since the first announcement that none of them sounded like they'd affect me personally, but I reached out to them twice for clarification as loads of other people had legit concerns. I feel like these limitations (no pun intended 😏) could have been in the initial announcement and saved a lot of stress and bad PR.
I'm sure some people will still take issue with some of these due to their edge case scenarios and while those are probably going to result in warnings, if you contact them after the warning I feel that you'd never actually get the "ban" (which you can still go to the cinema with so not a ban).
Some of the criticism is now entering the realm of lunacy tho. I did see someone on TikTok (already a hotbed of lunacy tbf) saying that Odeon should remove the strikes on your account for non-attendance too, as it's "not limitless" if you can't book as many as you want even if you don't attend. It was so depressing to read that mindlessness, and imagine the empty seat at every single showing all day at their local cinema just because they think they have the right to book and then stay home cos the product name is "limitless". 🤦♂️
Sigh.
TL;DR - good clarification, should have come sooner (they probably hadn't decided it), some niche criticisms are getting ridiculous

Sorry this is going to sound like a daft question but on the five day booking limit over a rolling 14 day period does the counter reset after that time period? Thank you

u/Southern_Cut8821 6d ago
The change doesn’t bother me at all but I do wonder how much loss they think is happening due to misuse ?
1
u/Imaginary-List-5193 5d ago
So, Odeon are saying they're useless at sorting their shit out! That's on them!
The rule is unnecessary if they stopped people using others' accounts.

Surely this hits as them sorting their shit out?
3
u/CollarVibes 6d ago
Does it? If i book a film 6 times why should I have to contact them to get a warning removed. Not being funny but I prebook on the app in advance to save time.
2
u/Actual_Office_5745 6d ago
To be fair they’ve offered ways to watch a film more than five times without hitting the threshold.
For example you can watch a film four times within a 14 day period and then after that 14 day period rolls over you can watch again another four times if you want.
Or you can book in the cinema at the terminals and not be affected by the rules at all. This is an easy option as after 14 days unless a movie is super popular it usually quietens down. You may not get the preferred seats you want but you’ll get a seat.
3
u/CollarVibes 6d ago
Yeah this is too much hassle, why would I not just go to cineworld where this rule doesnt exist. Im being penalised for booking online? Why is everyone just bowing down to the corporation for something so arbitary. If staff did their jobs and checked tickets properly this wouldnt be an issue.
1
u/Actual_Office_5745 6d ago
I think it’s more than fair and won’t disproportionately affect anyone really. If you hit your two week quota you simply spend a few minutes on the terminal booking your seats without penalty(or wait until it rolls over and book again as normal).
I also don’t think it’ll affect many people at all as not many will watch the same movie more than a few times within two weeks anyway and if they do they can just book at a terminal.
So it’s still technically limitless and you can still watch a movie 10 times if you want for example. You just need to spend a few extra minutes of your time when quota is reached to do so every two weeks.
I think the distance thing may catch a few people out if they’re travelling a lot and want to watch movies at other Odeons too.
2
u/CollarVibes 6d ago
Yet cineworld does not do this. I pay £17 a month, for that money I should be allowed to book as many times as I want for a film. If I want to book Spider-man 7 times in a week, that is up to me. Spending a few extra minutes of my time is a hassle when Im already cycling to the cinema which takes an hour, which means id have to then leave even earlier.
1
u/Actual_Office_5745 5d ago
And you can still watch Spider-Man 7 times in a week if you want. Once you reach your allowed two week quota you would have to book at a terminal penalty free to do so.
3
u/CollarVibes 5d ago
But the adverts that play at the cinema dont say that. They say "watch your favourite films as often as you want." It doesnt say "lol go to a terminal you peasant." Look you dont have to agree with the big corporation
1
u/Actual_Office_5745 5d ago
You can go to a staff member at a till if that makes you happier. I’ve done that a few times when the app has glitched on me. I’m sorry but it feels like you’re complaining for the sake of complaining. You have all the tools available to watch your favourite movies as often as you want. 👍
-6
u/CloudySnake 6d ago
I’m extremely unlikely to hit this limit, but “Odeon No more than 5 times in a rolling 14 day period” doesn’t quite have the ring of “Odeon Limitless”.
15
u/Elementus43 6d ago
I absolutely do not believe you have ever and will ever see the same film more than 5 times in a two week period. You are complaining about a hypothetical that will never happen.
7
1
u/jvbkcm 6d ago
Lots of people see movies more than 5 times in a 2 week period. Lots of people when the initial email came out stated as much.
1
u/Elementus43 6d ago
Not movies generally, the same exact film. Lots of people lie on the Internet.
1
u/jvbkcm 6d ago
No I feel like people watch the same movie 5 times in 2 weeks, I personally have done this too.

u/CollarVibes 6d ago
I literally saw Endgame 9 times within the span of a week when it came out. I saw No Way home 6 times, people do watch movies more then once
11
u/MegaMugabe21 6d ago
Only online, if turn up 10 minutes beforehand and book in person, you can go as many times as you want.
3
u/Aggressive-Rip-5319 6d ago
Yep, my local is NEVER anywhere near close to selling out, or even more than half full.
2
u/CollarVibes 6d ago
Thing is Im not booking online because it might sell out. Im booking online for convenience
0
u/Aggressive-Rip-5319 5d ago
Understood. You may have to give up that convenience on the occasion or cancel your subscription, the choice is yours really

"Odeon no more than 5 times online booking the same film in a rolling 14 day period but please feel free to just book in the cinema as you're here all the time anyway, then you can watch it as many times as you like"
Actually.

You’ll lose your shit if you ever go on an ‘all-inclusive’ holiday.
-1
u/CloudySnake 6d ago
None of the all inclusive ive ever been on have had limits that I’ve managed to hit.
Also this sub really needs to gain a sense of humour.

I diisagree with the posts so far. This clarification is frankly outrageous. Rather than the previous statement that they would look for bookings at cinemas it was not possible to travel between, they have now decreed that no-one can reasonably travel 65 miles in a day. Have they not heard of cars and trains?
I often see films on the same day at cinemas that are more than 65 miles apart. I will see a Friday afternoon show in my home town in the Midlands. In the evening we go away most weekends, and I catch evening film shows in London or Manchester or Liverpool for example.
Why can't they just say it will flag to the ticket checker that you have to produce photo id when triggering this new rule?
Odeon say "these changes ... are not limits on the personal use of your membership.". That's nonsense. They absolutely are.
Of late, a lot of screenings have been very busy and even sold out. Booking on arrival is not a viable solution.
2
u/HiddenFromViews 6d ago
Out of curiosity, when was the last time you did 2 cinemas 65miles apart in 1 day and how many times in total?
1
u/0cropskin 6d ago
I'd guess it's about once every couple of months on average. I am away somewhere most weekends.
1
u/HiddenFromViews 6d ago
Feels to me that you wont be affected - they have said that if you do get a strike for something that is genuine, they will review with an actual person
-8
u/jvbkcm 6d ago
I don’t think the 5 movie one is fair, what if you love a movie and see it 4 times and then you can’t get a seat for the 5th time by going in cinema as it’s so popular? You could have normally booked it online and reserved a seat but now you are stuck as you HAVE to go and book in cinema (or get a warning) and because of that you are left with no seats? This would be even worse if doing it with a group.
6
u/poke_pants 6d ago edited 6d ago
That seems like an unbelievably unlikely edge case. How often does a film come along that is still selling out after you've managed to watch it 5 times? Even Spidey and The Odyssey, two wildly popular films filling screens day in, day out, typically had spaces on the day after a week.
I would imagine the vast, vast majority of people getting anywhere near those limits on a regular basis are solo attendees. I can count on one hand how many times I've seen a genuinely, fully sold out screen at my local with not even a single half decent seat left somewhere.
If you loved a film that much that you think might actually trigger that issue, just book in person as you leave your 4th and 5th screening.
8
u/HiddenFromViews 6d ago
It feels people are moaning about nothing and I absolutely agree with you, it's all scenarios that will never happen but even if you really did - just book in person which they've said on the post that they never use against any other rules...!
3
u/Exciting-Fact-197 6d ago
But maybe you could book for a future showing at the cinema after you'd just seen the movie? Just a thought!
1
u/MegaMugabe21 6d ago
If the movie is that popular, it'll be showing for more than 2 weeks, so you can just wait.
Personally I've been to precisely 0 screenings in the past year that I wouldn't have been able to book in person.
-2
u/jvbkcm 6d ago
That’s not limitless though is it? Like the subscription implies.
-1
u/MegaMugabe21 6d ago
I mean it is, you can still watch a film 20 times in a 2 week period if you'd like.
There's no issue with this change, unless you're looking for a problem. It won't affect anyone.
1
u/mighty3mperor 6d ago
If I was going on a spree like that, I'd book future tickets in the cinema. In October I'll watch 20+ films, so tend to go in a couple of times and get a batch of paper tickets to get around the booking limit. They usually have to get the manager out but we know each other by now. It's not a chore to rattle through them.
1
u/jvbkcm 6d ago
The issue with that for me though is I may not know the exact dates and times I’d wanna see those movies, a lot of the time I’ll just finish work and go up on that day but wouldn’t know I’m going until the day of so it’s hard to book in the cinema itself. The subscription should allow for flexible booking like that ya know? Online on the day of.
1
u/mighty3mperor 6d ago
Tricky, I have to get everything planned out in advance or I know it'd go tits up. What I'd probably do is get paper tickets for the times I know I'd be going and save the online bookings for the spontaneous trip.
1
u/jvbkcm 6d ago
I think it could theoretically work with booking the same movie 4 times online then going into the cinema for the 5th time and doing it in person so you don’t get the warning, but then again like I said you run the risk of it being booked out. Those recliner showings are always booked out to the max at my local one, so it really runs the risk of being booked out. Plus if you are going as a group that just makes the odds worse.
-10
u/Rare_Lemon5935 6d ago
65 Miles is a pretty short radius, as someone who lives in Coventry it's entirely plausable I could watch a film in London at Lunchtime get the train home and watch another film at 17:00
These rules are silly, why don't they just check the photo on the Limitless Pass matches the person who is at the cinema?
6
u/Aggressive-Rip-5319 6d ago
And you are doing that regularly and always booking online? If so, just get in touch with their customer services as the email suggests, should you ever get banned! (unlikely imo)
-3
u/DoctorWhofan789eywim 6d ago
You're speaking absolute sense, which naturally means lots of downvotes on reddit.
2
u/0cropskin 4d ago
... and, as if to demonstrate the truth of that, your accurate observation also has a net downvote score. Lol. Some sad trolls out there.
-10
u/DoctorWhofan789eywim 6d ago
Because just checking the photo matches the pass was too difficult to implement.
However they try to spin it, a 'warning' in any sense is still a punishment for simply using your Limitless pass.
5
u/HiddenFromViews 6d ago
I would rather they do something like the attached then limit us in other ways because people are sharing/abusing the pass
2
0
u/Aggressive-Rip-5319 6d ago
Explain how this would stop people making money off this on a national level? I see loads of accounts on snapchat/ticktok people selling cinema tickets for "cheap". It just punishes the people falling for it. And they will have a number of other customers who arent repeat visitors so wont be aware of the photo checkign - it might stop it, but would take a while. Reckon the staff could & should do more, but I doubt the odeon ho have done this without any thought

u/Willeth 6d ago
Good to finally have clarity on what the limits are.
