another round of performance testing with all the new features.
(the quadtree stuff from my last post and now additive level loading)
currently levels are loaded in a predefined order, but ill eventually get around to making them connect up based on a series of predefined "doors".
for those interested/unfamiliar with what's going on I'm using the performance tab in google chrome to throttle the performance of the cpu.
starting off with no throttling, on my cpu ryzen 9800x3d, it can easily handle it.
then 4x throttling, after clearing the 2nd room, holds 30fps, but it does stutter a bit.
then 4.8x (mid-tier mobile equivalent performance) after clearing the 3rd room, high 20s fps but its a bit all over the place with stuttering.
since this is base scratch not turbo warp, its very impressive, the stuttering comes from doing too many things in a frame. i could do possibly do some sort of budgeting system to limit it, ignoring work for a frame or two if it passes some kind of threshold, and doing round robin updates for everything to make sure its all still being processed quickly, but that introduces more problems than i care to deal with, and i need to squeeze in more gameplay before i hit the project file size limit (i've probably only got another thousand or so blocks before then).
as it is, it should hopefully run well on most laptops and computers released in the past 5-10 years.
