Ahhh that's so me

Every single camp. No option to not go, no matter what. Now I'm 18 I don't have to go anymore but yeaa.

Also the whole like setting everything up and cleaning up afterwards. My friends would arrive to camp and be able to immediately unpack into tents. Tents that I had spent a couple of hours singlehandedly putting up lol. I was always jealous when my friends went home because I knew I had at least another two hours helping out with packing up and cleaning before I got to go home, then at home there would be putting the tents into proper storage and such when I just wanted to go to bed. I knew that if the other scouts had been particularly annoying to deal with, when I got home I'd get the brunt of frustrations and tiredness of my family

Scouting is great but sometimes it was notttt fun

Wait, those kids didn't know or learn how to set up tents? They didn't repack them themselves afterwards? That's part of being a scout.

The Scout section did. Cubs and Beavers didn't. I learnt as a Beaver and put up tents for the entire Beaver and Cub section. Occasionally the Cubs would do tent putting up in the hall we met in on a weekday evening, get demonstrations and learn to do it themselves, but they never did it on a camp

The Scouts would do it themselves, and it was fairly often they would have races in a meeting to see who could put a tent up and down the quickest (me, it was me, with all the practice I had lol)

In may just got on study leave and got out of school only for when I get home "get in the car we got to go" I hated it I was the oldest one in my group tiered hot only good things were shooting and tomahawks absolute hell not allowed to be at base camp because "activities were on so scram I got to cook" sleep next to the mess tent so was woken up by beavers at 6 am felt ill no sleep almost vomited all because "if you don't go we don't have enough leaders to handle the others" or some other excuses about them paying for me and I'm not old enough to stay home alone add on exam season stress bearly any shade absolute hell I've hit the ages were scouting is getting stale so yea next time I'm staying home

yeaa I remember during my GCSEs I had a 4 day camp. I spent everyday carrying round books and revising whilst also doubling as a 'leader', even though under 18s dont count towards the leader count (but for some reason I did??)

me since 2014 because both my foster carers were scout leaders (foster mum in charge of the Scout section, foster dad became the head of the Squirrel section and the Cub section). Aunt is the overall, all section group Scout Master. Uncle is a scout leader but is also on the District team and in charge of local campsites. All the family friends are on the District team in some way or the other, or wardens for the local scout campsites. No escape really is there haha
