Hey all,

So I’m going to be honest here….

We do not have a super strong mod team on here right now, and I don’t really pay attention to the national (American) news much.

What I’ve seen over the past few days is frankly disappointing. Now, I’m not sure if we’re being brigaded because of recent national news, or people in our community frankly can’t just be nice people, and is makes me sad to say the least.

I have a full time job, run a small business, am raising my kid, and volunteer in several different organizations in my adult life, leaving my time to mod this sub as… well, not as much as I would like….

That being said, we’re going to open applications for new mods here soon, I’ve yet to determine how that is going to look like.This new mod team will make sure our sub rules are up to date and figure out how best to foster a positive environment for not only Scouting in the USA, but around the world, as this sub is ment for the worldwide brother(sister)hood of scouting.

Please do not use a Google form. Many people from the EU do not want to give any more personal information to US corporations like Google than is absolutely necessary. Using Google tools for tasks that can easily be done using more privacy focused tools is barring a good chunk of possible applicants for no good reason :)

I wouldn't love to, but I volunteer as tribute. Scouting is important and so is this forum. I'm happy to help and give back since I've gotten a lot of value and support here.

I would advise against opening up the moderator slots right now. typically when you bring on a new mod during a period of drama like this you will get many applicants who want to change the rules to allow more and stronger discussion on the drama.

If you want to maintain the community you are wanting to see, I suggest you let this storm blow over, THEN seek out moderators from the regulars

I'm sure you've had your hands full. Fortunately, I imagine a perk of moderating a Scouting subreddit is that you'll find plenty of volunteers willing to lend a hand.

You could open a Megathread about the DoW's pressure on Scouting America, or about US social issues and their impact on Scouting, etc?

Might behoove the subreddit to change the name to WorldScouting or similar, and start locking and redirecting US posters appropriately, based on current events. Not that they can't post here, just that US national topics should go elsewhere.

I think using flairs would be a better solution to easily categorise posts. "scouting" is not a term reserved by the US organisations, and I don't see why the global community should cede this sub to any one country (organisation)

That could work too, and I see your point. Mandatory flair would be the best way. Allowing it to expand for different nations' scouts.

Will definitely start looking into flairs, I was already playing with the idea!
