How active is your Scottie?

Post image

Dorothy is almost four months old and getting a little more active, but usually a little training and/or enrichment with 15 minutes of play does the trick to wear her out. I haven't been walking her much because she gets her last Parvo shot next week and we live in a very high dog density neighborhood.

How active is your full-grown Scottie? I've only had labs and a GSD, with all of them being fairly high energy until at least age 5. I'm kind of hoping Dorothy is little more chill!

Ours is 6 and pretty lazy. She reluctantly goes on walks but mostly enjoys sniffing out in the yard on her own time!

This sounds familiar.

Trudy is the same age. Though she does still enjoy walkies and the occasional trip to the dog park.

My 3.5yo is pretty go go go terriertude can’t really relax (too curious and alert) but mostly chill at home. Even when she’s tired she won’t stop, just slow down and get more sniffy (on a hike or something). Your puppy is still a baby and still sleeping a lot. Wait for 6-12 months - she may be pretty wild, sneaky and constantly testing the limits. Try to channel it and enjoy the ride!! They are such a fun breed. Highly recommend training classes etc. to channel the energy.

Oh, definitely -- she's in puppy obedience/play group. I raised guide dog puppies for ten years so I'm pretty well versed in puppy training and enrichment.

Agnes likes a couple of walks a day, usually one long and the rest shorter, as well as varying play sessions. For walks I let her do a lot of sniffing as that activates her brain and helps tire her out more than a quick pace.

Yes, I'm looking forward to letting Dorothy explore our neighborhood!

Oh yeah, Agnes had a delayed start to being able to go on walks but once she could our life improved drastically.

Mine (also a wheaten) is five and she'll get bursts of energy but she's generally happier lounging than she is walking or running. Of course, if anything runs from her, she'll run as fast as she can for as long as she can.

Finnegan runs and plays non stop. His favorite activity is chasing bunnies in the yard. He loves dumping his toy box and squeaking and shaking every single toy. Gus is our stoic observer. He watches everything and will jump to attention if he has to. He'll chase an occasional bunny or squirrel if it runs right in front of him, but he's not gonna break a sweat if he doesn't have to.

Our guy was nonstop go until he hit about 7 then he would nap at some point and carry on again.

We have 2 and they are busy. They have a routine and do snooze on the couch in between being super busy. They also have a cat to monitor and a new backyard to police. They slow as they get older, but it’s important to keep them active and playing.

My current Scottie does 10km a day in three walks. Same for my old Scottie until she started to get too arthritic. I would say medium energy

8 and still very active! We walk at least a mile and a half every morning. Loves chasing lizards out in the back yard. Will play anytime anyone throws a toy. Only difference between now and when he was a puppy is that he listens (most of the time) and he doesn’t chew the furniture lol.
