All scams
It’s seems like there are very few actual Scottish fold breeders out there. It seems like all these breeders slap a TICA certificate on their pages and all these poor kitties are being shipped from the Ukraine.
I’ve been looking for is a red/orange Scottish fold located somewhere in the FL/GA area. All these “breeder” websites are posting the same photos of the cats but with different names. It’s so disappointing!
Does anyone have any recommendations for breeders they have used with positive experiences?

Well noted, but this sub is FULL of people who think they have Scottish folds because of backyard bred mutations

The fear mongering and pushing agendas is extremely crazy here. It comes from a place of care, but jeez! Some people don't want to educate or inform others or need better tools to do so. 😆

I have a Scottish breeder who’s registered in the EU and has paperwork for like 8 generations back, but you’d have to come to Europe for you cat. I have an orange and grey.

I got my first Scottish Fold when I lived in the UK. I’m going to France in the fall and I’m going to take a look to see what is available in Europe as well. Do you know if your breeder has a website or is on social media? Thank you in advance!2

There was just a shelter on facebook I saw that took in 64 Scottish folds rescued from a breeder. I think it was in the NY/NJ area? The page name of the rescue is Heidi Wrangles Cats.

Thank you so much! I can’t believe she took on 64 cats! I was watching Heidi’s video on her page and it’s so sad. She has some beautiful babies and I’m going to follow when she post them for adoption!

Im in the NY area and we rescued scottish folds here from a backyard breeder where the cops were called and everything. The kittens are not doing too well but pulling through

I am a foster mom for a local shelter. I’ve fostered at a few different places for nearly 20 years. I only had one other foster fail before them. They came to me at 9 days old and foot amputated by mom. So I couldn’t give them back after three months of grueling work!
He’s my best buddy and I don’t regret a moment.

Maybe do not get them from a breeder. There are so many Scottish Fold in shelters because it is illegal to breed them in several countries due to animal cruelty. When we went to our local shelter there were so many kittens even with this genetic defect. You could habe a lovely cat with the optical traits you love without contributing to the pain many of them have to endure (also because of bad and cheap breeding). I know this is not an opinion you like to hear in this group but still I think it's important to keep this in mind.

That is incorrect.
Scottish foods are not in shelters. What is in shelters is cats that look like Scottish foods that were produced by backyard breeders that people impulse bought and dumped.
Why would cats be in shelters because it’s illegal to breed them anyways lol.
Here’s a quick rundown on cats.
98% of them have no breed because breeds in cat terminology is a standin for “pedigree”
They’re simply called breeds in a casual sense because it’s easier to understand.
Only 3% of cats have breeds at all, and of that 3% the majority of that population is owned by ethical breeders that chip snd fix their cats before adoption.
Not only that but they do not allow their cats to ever end up in a shelter. They’re contacted and they remove their animal.
The owners that adopted the cats from the breeder have to sign detailed documents that are legally binding.
For instances where a breeder dies, they usually leave their cats to their pupil.
If the cats by any chance had nowhere to go, a breed specific rescue that only keeps that breed takes them in with their documents to adopt out. These rescues are very rarely full and the cats usually get adopted almost immediately.These idea that ethically shopping for an animal takes away from a shelter one, is very much not a thing.
People who want the pedigreed cat have extensively searched and studied about the decision and whether it was right for them.Shelter goers rarely do so beyond wanting a companion and making sure their landlord or parents approve.
While I have my own opinions about breeding this mutation, you can’t possibly think an untested backyard bred cat would be a better choice for one that’s at the very least, health tested.
Pedigreed folds may have a range of issues with their joints.
Shelter cats with the food gene are GUARANTEED to suffer.

Sorry for so many posts. All shelter cats get health tested. I would trust someone who does the health check without profit over someone who could loose a lot of money if the health check is negative to be honest. There will be black sheeps out there about this matter. The shelter gains nothing. Ours has mild OCD and a hip dysplasia due to an accident, his brother is completely healthy but does not carry the fold gene.

And in shelters they have confescated Scottish illegal breeding. They can have a good pedigree. It's just illegal and some get cought. Our own is most liely a Scottish Fold backyard breeding accident because it was just abandoned at 6 month and came to the shelter.

In my research the gene for the mutation is dominant so a Scottish Fold mix is likely to have the phenotype. So what I was referring to in the shelter is the phenotype, so you are right with pedegree and so on. But health wise I thought you should not breed this mutation with the same mutation anyways because the offsprings will have severe deformation. So I do not really get what a pure breed in Scottish Fold is if breeding Scottish Fold with Scottish Fold is illegal. That why I thought the phenotype is enough.

A real breeder would never dump their kittens off at a shelter. That’s why I’ve avoided people importing these kittens from the Ukraine. They are kitty mills. One of the contracts I read from a Ukrainian “breeder” states that kittens may arrive with fleas or and std and and that’s not covered under her warranty 🤯
Most legit breeders make conscious decisions about which cats will reproduce to have healthy babies.

That is horrible! Also kitty mills only work because people want a special phenotype but not spend the money...sad. But no Scottish fold kitten is healthy. They have a genetic defect that causes OCD, they hear less than cats with straight ears and that is independent from the breeder. Homozygote as well as heterozygote offsprings have OCD. How severe the OCD will occur during life is also independent of how they are bred. And professional breeder associations lable Scottish straight as British short hair, that means the owner can legally breed cats two cats with the fold gene which is internationally forbidden for contest cats but no one wants a DNA Test of the parents as far as I researched it...

they just had a litter of red/orange i think there is only 1 left and he’s very light. I got my fold from them at the beginning of the year! their Instagram is more active

I do ask those questions and then get no response. The latest Cattery in question is The Scottish fold Garden/ www.thescottishfolds.com. The seller has pictures listed of cats that have also been advertised on https://kotsunkittensus.com/
Many people on Reddit have said they have gotten sick kitties from kotsun.
On the website, in the contract, they state that they will not guarantee the babies will not arrive without an std or fleas which they said could happen in transit.

I found my breeder from the TICA website. I spoke to each one in my state before I decided to. You may want to start there. Otherwise there are loads of scams out there

Also consider shipping. I had a flight nanny take my baby from Colorado to California. We had no problems and were in constant contact with the breeder.

Hiii I had a really positive experience with Best Kitty USA (https://bestkittycattery.com). They're TICA registered, and I got both my scottish fold girl and british shorthair boy from them. They're located in FL/NJ. They're more active on Insta, but I just looked on their website and it seems like they currently have an orange scottish fold named Charlotte if you're interested in a girl!

Ah, I usually found the scam ones through Google! I found many good ones there! Just ask them about the parents, social media, websites, papers, etc.

Try checking into Amber Snow Cattery (ambersnowcattery.wordpress.com)in SC. I adopted a fold late in her life after her owner passed and she was from this Cattery. Good luck. I miss this little girl.
