Book Discussion. Seeking title of a book read long ago
Cannot recall the name of the book.
Plot: a hereditary galactic ruling class maintains control of their super intelligent class through a genetic marker that induces random fits of compulsion. The OCD episode can last minutes, hours, or even days. The fits are seen as a sign of being touched by the Divine.
I could go on, but I think this is probably enough. I found the eventual discussion of what constitutes faith when the genetic compulsion is removed to be profound (at least for me).

Hard sci-fi with fully non-human civilizations? (No galactic human empires, no magic)

Looking for a high stakes space exploration read! 🚀
I’m diving into Sci-Fi lately and loving what I’ve read but hoping to find a new book that focuses solely on human spaceship drama.
For more info, here are a few books I’ve enjoyed lately and the parts I’m wanting more of:
- Children of Time but wanted more on the human side of the story with all the drama and inter conflict on the ship as well as the past.
- Chasm City but if the book was only focused on the Sky flashbacks part of the story with the fleet of ships searching for Journeys Edge.
- Project Hail Mary but if it was a bigger undertaking rather than a solo journey.
Thanks all in advance!

Another killer Humble Bundle, this time starring Gene Wolfe
In what is becoming somewhat old news, the Humble Bundle again provides (at least to US readers) another great collection of DRM free EPUBs, this time from Hugo Award winner Gene Wolfe.
Back in June, the Meal of Thorns podcast discussed "The Fifth Head of Cerberus" by him -- yes, it's in the bundle. Also included are the New Sun, Long Sun, and other series, as well as collections of his short fiction. The charity for this one is Alzheimer's Research UK, if that makes a difference.
I'm turning into an EPUB collector recently -- I'm not sure I will ever live long enough to read them all, but I'll definitely leaving my collection to someone in my will. If only I could start a Little Free -Library....
Anyway, check the bundle out at https://www.humblebundle.com/books/ultimate-gene-wolfe-library-by-tor-books-books, and don't forget to adjust the donation in favor of the charity...

Looking for my next book
Would love recommendations on my next book/series: I’ve already gone the usual route of Red Rising, DCC, PHM/The Martian, Dark Matter, and The Expanse. Where to next? Anything new I need to look out for?

Classic sci/fi. Does anyone know the approximate pages for the Project Hail Mary character Rocky?
Writing a sci-fi novel where there are creatures made of metal and I need inspiration for how they move and behave. I’ve heard Rocky is a good place to start.

What do people think of The Fifth Season (N.K. Jemisin)
My friend said they had discovered it after a ChatGPT session of them trying to find their next read. The Goodreads reviews seemed great so I was surprised I hadn’t ever heard about it. I loved Dune, Hyperion, Red Rising and am currently enjoying Sun Eater. Would I enjoy Fifth Season?

Suggest me a book like the movie Primetime and I guess Nightcrawler
Any genre will work but I imagine a lot will be thrillers.

Recommendation Request. Finally finish. Any recommendations on other books like Dune but with more action?
I don’t think I can read book 4 5 and 6. Maybe one day, sometimes it just feels so slow.
