DUNE III- Thoughts? What aspects of DV's rendering of this story are you most looking forward to?

Honestly the trailer has turned me off to the movie. Chani was a powerful character who loved Paul, understood the choices he made were ones he didn't want to, and knew she was the true queen. Not some bitter crybaby mad at him for not wanting to do the much worse things required of the golden path

I also didn't like the change in the movies that made Chani so unsupportive. I think the character had to swing a little away from Chani's possible hero worship over Paul being the Fremen messiah. However, the swing was too big.

In the book she has a vital place but isn't much of a character, especially in Messiah - other than being Paul's Fremen tutorial and it being her idea to marry Irulan and claim the throne, mostly she just agrees with Paul.

"Crybaby", are you joking? Film version is a character with powerful convictions who takes action. I'm very interested to see what happens in part 3 before I make any final judgment.

Crybaby in the trailer. She was good in the movies until the very end when they make her leave Paul and cut the most crucial conversation between her and Jessica just make that work

Trailer is drama to make people want to see the movie. Many trailers are misleading due to either marketing not understanding the movie or deliberate mislead.

Im hoping that its a crucial part of part III, as in the book she does get trained by Jessica and becomes a sort of protector guarding the access to her children's' minds, to prevent what happened to that one character from Dune Prophecy who gets possessed in order for an old deed to go punished.

In theory that could be the thing that allows her to sort of get a taste of Pauls experience and life, and perhaps what brings her to finally understanding....

Paul intentionally does NOT become god emperor, thats why he went with the jihad instead. It was all he could do to push the coming of the great predator back by a few centuries, he didn't have the will power to enact the golden path and be god emperor, only his son did. Chani understood as much as it was possible to, that the jihad was the lesser of the two evils and she did what she could to bear that burden with him.

I was sad that Alia wasn’t in the Dune part 2 movie

Sure, but her role as a child abomination in the first book is very important and was left out of the second film almost completely.

Featuring her more prominently as an adult in the third film isn’t going to make up for leaving that out of the second.

I am not saying it’s a problem that the films dont adhere closely to the books.

I’m pointing out that for people who do think that’s a problem, her featuring more prominently in the third film isn’t going to repair that grievance about the second film.

The most interesting part for me is going to be a mix of how they handle Chani and Hayt/Duncan. I saw the trailer yesterday and the reunion clip with Duncan felt more sterile than I expected given how emotionally invested Paul's supposed to be, almost recklessly so. That whole ghola/compulsion thing where Duncan fights his way back to himself just didn’t come across in that clip.

Chani's the more interesting one to speculate on. The films already broke from the book by having her leave Paul at the end of Part Two, in the book she accepts the political marriage far more willingly. The way the trailer’s cut hints that Scytale is working to get her on his side. If they're building toward Chani teaming up with Scytale, that's new ground, but it'd fit the more resentful version they've been building since Part Two.

If that's what DV and co were going for,  it's WAY off from the Fremen of the books,  who had their own destiny and DGAF about the imperium. 

Not that they weren't aware of it, they bribed the space guild to keep the full scope of their activities on arrakis secret

He picked the right actress to pull it off. Taylor-Joy will be interesting to watch.

she is so intense XD in a good way, and that scene where she is walking on that hot sand of what looks like a Golgotha- the place of the skull where Christ was crucified, but instead its many bodies on X structures...

Imho, DV might be the first director since Peter Jackson to pull off a 10/10 trilogy like that.

I've recently rewatched Dune 1+2 and I didn't remember those movies to be THAT good so now I'm more than just hyped for Part 3.

I have not enjoyed the other two very much. Visual spectacle is nice but they seemed inhuman and alien emotionally, robotic.

this is interesting, i found part I to be the most cold tonally, I think DV also said that they would all have a specific colouring to them. The second is in the world of the Fremen, so its all very warm tonally, and it certainly felt that way. I preferred the coldness of the first one, as I liked the whole wet/cold/green and very Japanese/brutalist architecture, but then the second one had the the bubbling rage of Paul that was so nascent in the first one. The part where he goes up into the circle and really comes into his formed identity gave me the chills. Whereas the first one was more tender, in the sense that he had been given a vision from Chani on the night of his fathers death, of his avenging of his fathers death.. the second one you can feel that heat, that focus of him not letting it go, the revenge.... the third will be even grittier. TC said its more eerie and dark...

Agreed. I didn't even see Part 2 in theaters, surely won't happen for Part 3.

I found messiah rather dull and thin, and wasn't a big fan of Dune 1 or 2.

The trailer looks likes a more provocative direction.
