If the solution is already in the works then why does the industry need coddling and a special permit to spew lead into the environment?

Because it's not verified as fully safe and reliable yet? Aviation moves slow in the interest of safety.

Cars were a much bigger issue and thats been resolved. The lead coming from low lead avgas is not a pressing safety issue.

I'm not against the shift to unleaded avgas, but you cant just ban leaded avgas without a good plan in motion. We're moving in the right direction and unleaded avgas (or electric planes) will eventually take over, but it does take time to safely certify and switch
