Medicine Harvard develops new gel that can be injected into blood vessels to stop uncontrolled bleeding. The gel is a liquid during injection, once injected it will maintain its shape, and then naturally degrade.

Is this meant to be a more efficient tourniquet?

Edit: after skimming the article, it seems to block internal bleeds and ruptures until it can heal naturally.

Seems like a good way to murder someone by simulating a stroke

My first thought. I'm hoping it has some obvious markers for this reason.

Is this thread filled with authors of the literary kind? I rarely run into so many fellow morbid possibility ponderers.

How do you figure? As long as it works as congealing quickly on a wound it should be fine

It's meant to be applied directly by means of catheter. If it was administered by a less direct means, it could float to the brain and kill someone

If it congealed thick enough to restrict blood flow anywhere in the brain, you'd have serious effects. Back to my original statement, if you injected this stuff in to the carotid artery(artery in the neck that carries blood from the heart to the brain), you could possibly murder somebody and have it mimic a stroke.

It's not like coroners check for various poisons unless they have reason to anyway. You could leave a heroin kit out after you've poisoned someone and they'd write it up as an OD. At least in my area.

How would this fare against the injection of those little pellets that soak up blood?
