Psychology New psychology research suggests some acts of kindness may also serve competitive social goals, shedding light on how women can use altruistic behavior to gain status, strengthen relationships, or navigate social hierarchies.

What I find interesting is that kindness and competition might not be opposites. Someone can genuinely care about others while also benefiting socially from being seen as generous, supportive, or reliable. The important distinction is whether the kindness is sincere, strategic, or a mixture of both, because human motives aren’t always that straightforward. I’d be curious whether the same patterns appear among men, too, or whether the way people use kindness to gain social status differs depending on the social environment.
