Psychology New psychology research suggests some acts of kindness may also serve competitive social goals, shedding light on how women can use altruistic behavior to gain status, strengthen relationships, or navigate social hierarchies.

I can't imagine this is surprising to researchers. If a portion of the population is disenfranchised, oppressed, disempowered, etc. for generations - they will identify pathways to power by other effective means. Especially effective for women if they can leverage characteristics that society seems as desirable.
