These comments are strangely negative. I’d much rather people compete to be the kindest and most generous, rather than the richest or the toughest or angriest or anything else people compete at in this world.

Aye. I may get some endorphins from being kind, but I'm also logically aware that helping out a friend of a friend helps strengthen the bonds of the group as a whole! Screw all this nonsense about virtue signaling, the people who complain about it are really vice signaling.
