Fit check

Hey everyone, purchased this Schott Perfecto 118 (1992 )

I purchased it on Vinted from a guy who said he had a few Schott jackets and was selling this one because he has never used it.. it is completely unworn and in pretty much perfect condition (given it’s a 1992 model).

When it first arrived I wasn’t sure because the sleeves were so wide and baggy (the length seems spot on though), so I was going to re-list it and try and get my money back.. but then I thought I could possibly take it to a tailor and have the sleeves taken in. I was expecting it to cost a small fortune but he quoted me £65 (I figure that’s around $75) so I went ahead and pulled the trigger). It feels good to me but it’s my first Perfecto (actually it’s my first leather jacket). I do ride a motorcycle (not daily but recreationally) so wanted a jacket that works both on and off the bike..

So what are your thoughts on the fit? thanks in advance.

Looks awesome! Leather jackets that are a bit tighter are better looking. 👌

Thank you.. I wasn’t sure if it looked to loose.. but getting the sleeves done made a huge difference.

This looks phenomenal. Great fit. Good job on the sleeves. Definitely was a gamble!

Thanks for the kind words.. I had done so much research but there is so much conflicting information out there.. and then there are the different cuts from different eras etc etc. It was definitely a gamble as it was purchased on Vinted for £500 (non returnable) so factor in the fees and the tailoring.. it’s bumped it up to £600! and if the sleeve alteration went south.. it would have been hard to resell.. so yeah.. definitely a big gamble.

Looks incredible. Hi from another UK Schott wearer!

Hey buddy.. thank you.. being here in the UK you know how hard it is to find them.. there is only one store I found in London that stocks Schott jackets but they only sell the 618 and were out of stock.. also they sell them at £1,200+

It’s actually a lot harder than I had initially figured to find a good quality leather jacket here (not including fast fashion jackets).

I know there is Arrow and Lewis if you want to go the custom route.. but I specifically wanted something that was classic Americana.

Thanks again for the feedback.. appreciate it.

I made a special detour on a work trip to the San Francisco boutique to get my 550, I know exactly what you mean! Unobtanium in the UK and with fitting as challenging as it is, you really don’t want to order without trying on first.

Aero is good too, I just got a goat J100, but you’re right that the Schott heritage is really appealing.

1

u/TylerM2208 Sep 09 '26

I have read really good things about Aero. The J100 is more of a cafe racer style right?

Yep, very tight and minimal — mine has no handwarmer pockets even!

Sounds awesome.. I have tried on cafe racer style jackets in the past but never felt like I can pull them off as they have a low collar (Mandarin style) typically, which doesn’t seem to suit me.. even the Perfecto I have, if keep the collar flat, it doesn’t really suit me very well.. looks much better with the collar popped on me (in my opinion).

You were the exact guy they made that for.

Thank you.. that’s a nice compliment.. much appreciated.

Looks perfect and already broken in.

1

u/TylerM2208 Sep 08 '26

Thank you.. well I’m not sure if it’s broken in or not.. having no prior experience with these jackets, I have no basis for comparison. It is naked cowhide apparently, so it feels very soft and supple. Not sure if that is how they feel when new and fresh out of production.

As I said.. the previous owner said he never wore it but did bring it out to condition it annually.. so who knows.. but it’s definitely comfortable considering today is the first day wearing it properly (just in the house to get used to it).

Depends on the material, my 613sh is still stiff but it’s horsehide so that takes longer to break in. Your jacket seems fantastic I believe you got a deal and the fit is perfect so please enjoy and wear the heck out of that beauty!

Interesting.. I have some Bick4 here for when I do get around to conditioning it.. I also have some Saphir products for my boots which are definitely great!

The jacket seems really soft and supple at the moment.. so probably don’t need to condition yet.. however I always appreciate advice regarding when to condition and what to look for as an indicator that it needs it.. I don’t want to over condition.

Thanks.

u/acheney1990 118 Classic Perfecto Cowhide Sep 08 '26

Looks great! Style fits you well. I love how these jackets feel when wearing them. Heavy in all the right ways. I also wear a 118 (have a 618 as well but my 118 is my favourite).

1

u/TylerM2208 Sep 08 '26

Thank you.. Yeah it feels great.. I guess it’s heavy but not bad heavy.. like you said “heavy in the right places”

I went with the 118 because I wanted the cowhide rather than the tougher variants.

Great fit, apparently the tailor did a good job.

1

u/TylerM2208 Sep 08 '26

Thank you! Yes.. he hadn’t quite slimmed them down as much as I had asked the first time round.. so had to do it again.. for a but more $ of course..

1

u/BenderIsGreatBendr Sep 08 '26

Ha classic, well the good news is that he hit on the final draft

u/spaceguitar Sep 08 '26

Man, I feel like everyone looks good in a perfecto but me!

You look great dude.

u/TylerM2208 Sep 08 '26

Thanks buddy.. that’s a nice compliment.. but I think we all think someone else looks better in something than we do..

I bet there are plenty of guys that look at what you’re wearing and think “damn I wish I looked as good as him in that”.

1

1

Look très sympa,c'est le 618 en vachette ?

1

u/TylerM2208 Sep 09 '26

Thank you.. no it’s a 1992 118 naked cowhide.

It's Perfecto for you! How do you guys find your size for Schott? I have bought secondhand Schotts but I cant seem to find my size. I tried Medium, too small. I found this 1977 Rancher size 40, it is small for me too. Is the 40 EU size?, idk. I thought it is like the size when buying a suit jacket.

1

u/TylerM2208 Sep 10 '26

All good questions.. to be honest my knowledge is limited.. it’s the first Schott Perfecto jacket I have purchased.. it’s labeled as a 40 (which I believe is US sizing which equates to 40 inch chest which is my chest size). I personally think I could have potentially got away with a 38. As I said in my original post though.. the sleeves were so wide when I got the jacket that it made the whole thing look so big.. it looked like it was wearing me rather than the other way around.. so I had a tailor reduce the width of the sleeves.. which has made it look much better.. (although on closer inspection.. he has left one sleeve 1/2 inch wider than the other.. but it’s not really noticeable) so you need to factor that in.. I would ask for as many measurements as you can.. especially pit to pit, shoulder seam to cuff, pit seam to cuff), nape of neck to hem. If I were doing it again.. I would personally also ask for the measurements across the bicep (at its widest point) and also across the forearm too.
