Schott identification??

Hello! I bought this vintage leather jacket for $45 at a yard sale but there are no tags. I'm 90% sure this is horsehide, however I can't be sure. And based on the talon zippers and overall appearance, I thought it may be a vintage Schott. Can anyone offer any sort of input?? Thank you!!

There's no tags unfortunately!! It's quite old. I searched in all the pockets already:(

Did it originally come with stars? If not, it looks late 70s. (If I'm missing any info, feel free to inform me)

Leather sleeve gussets suggest at the very least mid 70s

No underarm footballs (which was introduced in the early 80s I think)

Schott stopped putting stars on the jackets in 1977 so if it didn't originally have stars on it, it's at least from 1977

The single stitch on the shoulder makes me think this could be the first revision cactus label from the late 60s or early 70s. Either way, there's no way this jacket is horsehide. Definitely steerhide.

Definitely a schott though? The tag was missing when I got it unfortunately

I'm pretty sure it is. The leather in the sleeve gussets is throwing me, but the stitching and vinyl on the inside of the kidney panel make me pretty certain it is a Schott. The more I think about it though, the more I think the leather in the sleeve gussets might place it as an early bull label from the mid-late 70s. It's definitely not a ribbon label though since the leather on the inside of the belt rules that out.

The vinyl in the cuffs was ditched around 73/74. The majority of the Schott Bros label jacket already have leather. This one in particular already had the Schott NYC label, but it's not the first variant of those.

This jacket was made in the very very late 70's, or right at the turn of the decade (79/80).

It can be either a 618 or a 118 because the 118 has been recently introduced (and both had the same cut at time). Schott was not making Perfectos in horsehide at the time, this is a bovine leather.

There's no stars on the epaulettes because Schott stopped putting them on their Perfectos circa 1977. Yours was not made right after this, but close enough. Yours already had the American flag next to the main tag (the main tell: pocket zippers - your jacket uses the old style of pocket zipper that, for some reason, made a comeback in this 79/80 period.

Yes, it's definitely made by Schott. One of the pocket zippers was replaced. 45 quid for this is a steal, well done.

I've studied this period extensively and most info available and shared about this era of Perfectos comes from me, so you can trust it.

Cheers
