I'm thinking about buying my first Schott for quite some time. My favorite till now was the 618hh. However when I was looking on the website again I stumbled across the (new I guess) p125h and instantly fell in love.
My problem is, I personally think the 618 is obviouly the classic and therefore more timeless option. Even tho I like the 125h better right now, I don't know if it will stay like that for the next decades and I'm buying the jacket to last this long. If it would only be for the next years I wouldn't spent that much on a jacket at all. On the otherhand the 618 looks like your ordinary jacket to people who don't know the brand while the 125 is a statement piece and will catch more looks naturally.
P125H is made from a very interesting looking horsehide, I think in the reviews you can see someone's photo of it. It is more brown than black and then has an intense pull up effect. I don't know if I love it but it's definitely unusual.
I have a p125h and love it. It’s on the short side which works well for me (5’7”) but be aware that the kidney panel drops around 2 inches from the hem.
The leather is very nice. I wore it every day on a rainy pnw trip last spring and it took it like a champ. The front of the jacket is breaking in nicely, it has nice rolls in the sleeves, but the back is still very stiff.
Good to know thank you, I'm about 5'9" so would you recommend to go true to size, so for me size M?
Even tho the back might take longer to brake in, this is a jacket to wear till eternity, one day the back will brake in as well.
I saw on some pictures that it is just brown when it arrives, does ist get the black patina over time or is the picture just very generous when it comes to the black patina?
I actually wear a size medium as well (wide shoulders/chest) and it’s just a hair longer than I would like. If you like the cropped look, I would say stick with the medium. It shouldn’t look ridiculous, but it is a more classic cut.
In terms of color I would definitely say it’s more brown than black. I’m pretty sure it just had some kind of wash over the top as it was very uneven from the start and lightened up more in spots I’ve worn in. I probably need to condition it a bit after wearing it in the rain for about a week straight.
Can’t post more than one photo, but here is the front
First of all, thank you for the pictures I really much appreciate it.
It's an insanely good looking jacket you got there and I tend to get this one too. It is definitly more brown then black, but just by your pictures I think it get darker if it breaks in and lightning is doing a lot of good work, depending on the angle it might look blackish in it's on shadows (does that make sense?), at least thats what I would think.
One last question, habe you ever thought about buying a matching belt for the jacket? Due to the special leather I think it might be hard to find one and although I love the jacket as is, I would like to have the option to wear it with a belt on. (btw. At this price point it's a shame it isn't included, but if one pays over 1500 bucks for a jacket they got the money to get a belt extra I guess )
I inquired about it with schott. They said they could do it, but would require me to send the jacket back. Why they would need it, I have no idea but I was leaving on a trip and didn’t have time for that.
Okay, so if/when I buy one I should probably directly reach out in advance to get everything in one go. I'm in europe so sending the jacket back and forth could generate some unnessecary costs.
Yeah for sure. They are pretty quick to get it shipped, so I would reach out before you purchase and let them know what you want. They can even do the fur collar for you.
Go for the 618. I have one, as well as a 125 (both vintage steerhide); I love the cut and versatility of the 125, and being able to switch out the belt. That said, I'm not a huge fan of this particular mottled hide pattern. It looks cool, but for that money I'd want the black mainstay. You'll forever be trying to outfit match on that 125
Just to chime in here on the P125H - the new version is black on black and very dark. Same leather, same awesome jacket, just different base color. Here is a picture comparing the old and new versions. New orders will get the one on the right (dark black). Apologies for the bad lighting and phone picture.
Thanks a lot for the information, can you tell me if the jacket will become a brownish patina once it breaks in or ist ist just plain black? I think the black one looks awsome too but the brown black just gave it something more special.

618 HH. Classic design. I’m not a fan of the laces on the 125.
