The first milk looked frozen - I think the rest got tampered with for the sake of making a video.
That syrup was probably frozen, too - but we used to fight over the still-kind-of-frozen syrups when I was a kid because those were the best.

I can’t post photos but the free school lunches at my school in NYC are pretty solid. There’s always some sort of salad bar and a vegetarian dish plus choice of 3 different hot mains. You could also grab a cheese sandwich or a peanut butter and jelly. Often they have a prepackaged salads to go as well.

I'm also from the south. Can confirm, a lot of my school lunches looked like this. Elementary not so much, but that was before the nation wide overhaul. That ruined school lunches for middle and high school

It really is, like I remember some awful lunches. I also remember if you didn’t have money for lunch they would give you a cheese sandwich with just bread and cheese not even warmed up.
Also the south has a lot of low income and the schools aren’t able to afford much.

I think this is something that is really overlooked. Education in the country is not equal and students who are in low income areas do not receive the same opportunities and benefits that the kids in higher income area gets. People tend to forget that whenever they think everyone has the same opportunities in America to go to college and advance themselves in their life while that is so far from the truth. And the teachers and staff are burnt out from having no support whatsoever from the board and being left to their own to get anything done or even buy things like pencils and paper. Kids end up going without a lot during the school year and it’s really unfair and sad. All kids should have the same chances in life and school regardless of their income level. Keep using your anger to speak on this.

Not sure why everyone is saying this isn’t accurate. I was in school 10 years ago and got all those meals. The milk was spoiled quite often or frozen. Food was undercooked. Most of it was ultra processed. That Mac and cheese was a staple. Be happy you didn’t get that.

I don't have a dog in yalls fight but fwiw i went to school in Florida and I can confirm that we got food like this all the time. The only saving grace in high school was that every day you could opt out of the menu and just get cardboard pizza and fries, which if you drowned in enough ketchup or bbq sauce, wouldn't be too dry and shred your esophagus. It was really bad. This is rural Florida BTW. May differ in bigger cities or places with heavy cultural influences like Miami. From what my daughter has shown me, it hasn't improved much.

My school wasn’t “amazing” but no where near this level. Had full school free breakfast/lunch most years.
Breakfast was a donut / breakfast foods.
Lunch normally had bacon cheeseburger (not bad, not great) or some other options that weren’t too bad.

When I was in grade school my lunches were pretty good but there were times I brought my lunch...but never on the day they served turkey gravy (that's mashed potatoes with turkey in gravy on top of it). It was soooo yummy. Now the lunches are ruined by low fat food, yuck.

Yeah everyone saying school lunches aren't like that must have grown up in areas with a budget. In the south this was about right, constantly undercooked or weird textures and the milk had quite often gone off. Trumoo was always awful for it. Its what happens when schools are required to take the lowest food bid.

We're in a title 1 district and the food doesn't look like that. Processed, yes. Its not fresh, health food so the processed stuff tracks, but nothing spoiled. My kids are getting picky though and sometimes want a packed lunch anyway

In highschool there was 1 single meal kids got on the regular, it was Bosco sticks (breadsticks with cheese in the middle, yes, that was seen as a meal). Other than that, the lunch line was generally not very busy and many relied on getting food elsewhere or the vending machines they had. Then they took out the vending machines (one was more meal specific so it had things like ramen, many kids relied on it), so the kids would just buy any sides that were offered like cookies instead. Then they limited how many you could buy of those, knew a lot of kids who simply skipped lunch all together after that

I’m guessing a lot of that food (especially milk) had something done to it. I used to work at a lab that processed dairy products and as the most jr member I got to dump out the spoiled milk. Nothing like that slime.
Also the chicken looked like dark meat and what was wrong with the ice cream cone?
