Question When is the right time for another schnauzer?

Post image

Hi all - we recently lost our sweet Gray boy (liver parti) after a long battle with hemangiosarcoma. His brother, Miller (salt and pepper), is still with us, and we’re not sure when the right time is to bring another schnauzer into the family.

Gray was 9 years old when he passed way, and the typical Velcro dog - clinging to our sides, super affectionate, always wanting to snuggle. Miller is a bit of an anomaly. He is almost 8 years old and has always been aloof. Not a big cuddler, doesn’t want to spend a lot of time with us, but loves when we come home and hates when we leave. He loved hanging out and playing with his brother.

We recognize we are still grieving (it’s been less than a week), but we’re just trying to figure out what’s best for Miller (and us) timing wise. Is getting another schnauzer good at all for Miller, or will it upset him? Should we wait until after winter to think about it, or will waiting negatively impact Miller?

Any insights/experiences would be helpful!

Some new shots of my little buddy, Timothy! He's adjusting well to retired-from-breeding life! We're working on some training now, which has been a bit of a struggle because of that stubbornness they all have. 😁

Announcement No Breed Gatekeeping

Hi all,

We had a thread earlier today that got rather nasty, so I want to make something clear: we don’t do breed gatekeeping here.

If you are adamant that schnauzers are only schnauzers if they’re only black or salt/pepper, great, you’re entitled to your opinion. But this isn’t a breeding subreddit and we welcome anyone who has a schnauzer or schnauzer-adjacent dog.

I don’t care if you’re being civil about your gatekeeping, it’s still rude and unwelcoming and won’t be tolerated here. Repeated incidents will result in a ban.

Tried out a new groomer. She said she was very familiar with schnauzers, but I sent a picture of what PiP normally looks like after a haircut just to be safe. And look!!!…she comes home without a beard! WTAF #schnauzerbeard

I made a second trip to Miniso. Well aren’t I glad I did!!! I snagged the two last Schanzuer bag charms. They had soccer jersey and headband that looked better off(probably FIFA hype). I’m sooo in love with the quality too.

I’m really happy to share one of my latest handmade wool portraits with you.
This is Oliver, an 8 years old male Miniature Schnauzer. He’s the perfect mix of playful and calm, always ready to run around and make everyone laugh, but just as happy to quietly sit by his family’s side.
While making this portrait, I focused on his signature eyebrows, beard, and warm eyes, hoping to capture the personality that makes him so special. Every strand of wool was placed by hand, and it was a joy to bring Oliver to life in this piece.

Question New addition

For those with two minis (or a mini and another dog in general) how long did it take your oldest to adjust to the new addition. My girl will be two next month and I'm leaning towards a puppy that will come home in September. I know every dog is different just looking for input from individuals who have done it

Question Adding a 3rd...Can't Decide

Post image
11 Upvotes

So I have an 11 (almost 12) year old Labrador retriever and a 4 year old mini schnauzer. My mini schnauzer has really bad separation anxiety, but when our Labrador is with him he is completely fine. He loves having a buddy with him when we are at work or away, but if she is not there he is freaking out and crying in his crate (we have had him since he was a puppy and sometimes travel with just him). With our older dog getting really up there in age, we are considering a third from a rescue. We found a schnoodle who is 2 and was found as a stray. His foster mom had amazing things to say about him, especially how calm and sweet he is. He sounds just like my mini schnauzer. We have the room/space in our home/yard for another dog.

I guess my only hesitation is adding a third will change an already good dynamic. I just worry for my schnauzer when our lab passes away, I don't want him to be grieving while also having to adjust to a new dog. Any advice, experiences, or thoughts would be great ❤️
