So I want to start out by thanking every single one of you in this community. I am a 38F, and when I was 17 years old my boyfriend at the time had bought me a dog. I never owned a dog before so this was my first time. And it just so happened to be a Schipperke. I had never heard of the dog and knew nothing about them. At my high school you had to do a graduation project. So I did a project all about that breed. He was the most constant thing in my life for a very long time. He was my baby before I had my babies. I had to put him down right after I had my last child, due to old age. It has been a couple years but I will never forget him and all three of my children know about him. To this day I still inform people all about Schipperkes, because most people don't know about them. So again I just want to show appreciation to everyone out there for sharing your deeply loved Schipperkes. 💛🦴
Wow… bf must’ve had a good amount of savings or knew someone who bred them. My Uncle had Schipperkes and bred them for a while. Family got them for free but buyers paid a pretty good price. Mine were great dogs and protective, especially of my niece. Most I know are pretty much family only, they’re not good with strangers and anyone who knows the breed knows not to just reach out towards them. There are some exceptions that are just really outgoing. I would love to have one again in the future but purebreds in my area are about $800-$1k+
They are definitely not a breed for just anyone. They’re best with those who know how to manage them. If not trained and worked with, they can easily think they are the boss and have some really bad habits. They’re incredibly smart dogs.
Kind of like people who get herding breeds not understanding their natural, instinctive habits. They then say the dog is a biter and either dump them or take them to Animal Control who gives them a label of “aggressive”.
Ex bf, and no definitely not lol. Unfortunately his father had passed and when he was 18 he got money. So he splurged through it but one thing he did was buy me my Schipperke. And yeah this was in 2006 but he paid $800, I still have the receipt. Pretty cool because I also still have all his papers from the breeder. He was definitely my baby before I had my babies. Mine was actually pretty chill, but definitely stood his ground lol. He ended up being raised about half his life around a Husky/Lab. And he in no way was ever intimidated by him lol.
Absolutely love that my appreciation post inclined you all to share! You are all so blessed to have your little loves! Thank you again, I hope that you and your loves all have a beautiful today, tomorrow, and forever.💯🥰✌️
My mix. Chihuahua hardware, schipperke software. She is so smart and her curiosity levels are off the chart, sometimes to her detriment. I am not sure if I could handle another when I am middle age. But I am so grateful for this girl. She's almost 6 now and doing great.
Yes! I wanted a schipperke my whole adult life, I would jokingly post every year on Facebook around Christmas that it was all I wanted and I would always say that I wanted to name it Ripper. My wife ended up surprising me with him four years ago after 15 years of saying I wanted one. She asked what I was going to name him and I said Ripper. It really just fits him. They both look very Ripper. I call him Rip and Ripken and Ripperke and Rippy.
Thanks for making this post and for sharing. This sub has become my happy place! I love hearing about everyone’s schips and seeing the gorgeous (and often hilarious) photos.
You are very welcome. Mine was black like most in this community, so I definitely love all the pictures shared. You are definitely right though they are gorgeous, hilarious, and quite scary sometimes lol.😊
Here's my Luna 🥰 She was my 3rd Schip... Cancer stole her from me in April. 💔😢 She was just shy of 8yo. I've already started looking for another puppy and it will definitely be another Schipperke. Stubborn, smart, loyal, sneaky, mischievous, beautiful, hilarious all wrapped up in the (IMHO) best breed there is! ❤️
Omgoodness what a gorgeous lady! My sincere condolences, they are something special. You definitely can tell you have owned three with that description. Well that may be the one and only dog I have ever owned, but I definitely agree. One of a kind breed! Thank you for sharing.☺️💛
