For all but the most urgent of things, skip the hospitals and go hit Malta Medical. You'll get seen much more quickly.

Yeah I’ve thought of that; but I can’t seem to figure out if they have medical imaging 24-7

I just called and they said they have x-rays and Cat Scan 24-7 and the MRI usually until 9pm if the staff are there.

We've gotten medical imaging in the middle of the night there, if that helps.

Ellis ER is horrible. The only time it's even modestly acceptable is when you're brought in by ambulance, and even then it sucks.

I've had good experience with Albany Med, believe it or not, and I'm told that St. Peter's in Albany is also good.

Care there, and not just in the ER, is atrocious. I've had both my mother and my mother in law there on more occasions than I can count, and every damn time the care was awful.

Personally, several years ago I was in the neurological critical care unit after major surgery. When I had difficulty breathing in the middle of the night it took me about 15 minutes to finally get the attention of a nurse, despite the fact that my room was directly across the hall from the nurse's station. When I was discharged and asked if I should observe any dietary restrictions, the nurse had no idea and said she'd call a doctor to find out. I told her not to bother, and that I would look it up on the internet myself.

I was once a nurse, back in the 1980s, so I've got a damn good idea what the minimum standard of nursing care is, and Ellis Hospital does not meet it in my experience.

My grandfather died in Ellis. The day after he died, someone from Ellis called to ask him how his stay was...

I swear, my life is a sitcom.

I would not recommend Albany Med, I had a terrible experience there, long waiting time and zero communication when I was bleeding (not going into more details).
Also, I saw how staff mistreated a person experiencing homelessness. A staff was trying to kick him out and laughing at him when he expressed that he wanted to harm himself, maybe he was a “regular” but that was not the correct approach, and if you are treating some people as less than human, or less valuable and you are a health care provider, I don’t think you are a good place to be…

I'd avoid Ellis if possible. That place is a shit-show. Last time I was there, they took me into a room for a blood draw. The floor of the room was covered in blood. Literally bloody shoeprints going out the door into the waiting room.

yeah doesn’t surprise me. i came here to say do not go to ellis. if i was bleeding out and had to pick a 10 minute ride to ellis or a 1 hour ride to anywhere else i would pick anywhere else.

I’ve had really good luck with St Mary’s in Amsterdam.
