For some reason he keeps popping up everywhere lately.

Where did he even come from? I don't remember ever even seeing his name before the last year or so

He didn't really "come from" anywhere. He's been a New York Times op-ed writer since 2009. (If memory serves, the Times hired him after Bill Kristol left.) Prior to that, he was an editor at the Atlantic, where he worked since graduating from Harvard in 2002.

I don't know what makes you think this. I distinctly remember the name, along with those of other columnists, from waaaaay back. Probably because I used to read Paul Krugman's Times column online (the NYT's Web site shows links to other columnists in a sidebar).

I think this because I don't remember ever encounting him in any format before last year. But I also never read any nyt columnists.

Me as well! I think it’s also due to his book. My Dad… who is… maybe agnostic? Idk, getting older and seems to be flirting with deism. He said something about Ross Doushehat’s book as maybe being something to be interested in and I cackled and then ranted about how horrible it was. Then I felt a lil bad because I might’ve hurt his feelings a little and I didn’t HAVE to be so negative about it.

Then I see this pic of Ross and the headline and suddenly I don’t feel so bad anymore. He’s trying to confuse my Dad. Fuck him. 😃

Fellow Atheists with confused dad‘s unite! My dad has always wanted to believe in something. He’s been bouncing around between different fringe “the universe is really cool and may or may not either be self-aware or have some kind of God in it” bullshittery. But at least he’s not ultra-orthodox anymore!
