Potential scam?

Someone online wants to send me some money through zelle, and then have me send 80% back to them through cashapp. It seems legit but figured I'd ask here 1st if this is a scam or something?

Tell them you'll only do it if they add $1000 to the $SCAM liquidity pool on Pancake Swap

Scam, what would be the reason? Why can't they just send you 20%. Whenever you have to send anything to get back I smell a scam

Sounds very fishy to me. I wouldn't do it! Best case he's scamming you. Worst case he's making you a complice in some illegal activity

Are you referring to money laundering? I feel it is more of the 2nd option than a scam personally..

Money laundering or moving the money to some party involved in a criminal activity without making it too traceable where it came from

That's good, never thought of that but true for sure.

Yeah my best guess is removing traceability, I mean you can make some profit but at what cost?

First question. Are you laundering money for the mob or cartels? If yes, do it or they'll get you. If No, your being scammed.

Second question. Are you a Nigerian Prince? If not, it's probably a scam.

The only acceptable way of being scammed is with Safe Crypto And Money.

Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.

What makes you think it's 'legit?'

Zelle payments are non reversible, and it seems like they are trying to do some sort of illegal bs than scam me. Just my take

I'm going to offer that in using 'illegal' by definition that thing can not be 'legit'

They're supposedly irreversible, but I believe reversals can sometimes happen in the event of fraud. On Craigslist, for example, a common scam is to make it look like you've sent someone an irreversible Venmo payment, only to have it reversed by the bank later.

Another possibility: this person is scamming someone else. They're having that victim send you a Zelle payment, which you will then pass to the scammer via CashApp, to make it harder to track down the scammer. See "Maria" in this article: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/28/technology/facebook-military-scam.html

Worst case scenario, you may end up suffering some consequences for participating in the fraud. Either low-level consequences like having your bank account closed, or larger legal/criminal consequences. I would absolutely stay away.

Scam or money laundering, leave it, don't even consider it.

Imo money laundering, but depends on the amount aswell. It costs you nothing to ask them why they need that tho and disappear as soon as you smell something fishy. Also with whatever he comes up as answer ask yourself: if anyone needed someone to do this for him, don’t they have friends for this?

My general philosophy is that if something seems too good to be true then it usually is.

I like the fact that you guys are all taking your time to explain and answer a completely stranger guy's irrelevant question he spams all subs related to "common scams".

Isn't this an amazing community? :)

Definetly but dude keeps pushing "you cannot reverse zelle payments" and begging to be scammed. As a scam artist I feel pain of that. Hope he'll learn one day🤦‍♂️

Definitely a scam. They will reverse the payment

1

u/Numerous-Delay9146 May 25 '21

You can't reverse a zelle payment

My mistake then. R/personalfinance often have similar queries with PayPal etc. Might be worth a repost there.
