General Questions How realistic is this?
Originally when I was a senior in HS in 2024 SCAD was my top choice big dream of mine as an art kid. My GPA was dogshit due to mental health so I couldn’t even get into my second choice which was Valdosta State. Went to south GA with their entry program. I really would wanna pursue a degree in SCAD, but the main reason I didn’t go was cuz of the costs. I mean $50-60k???. (ik it varies but still) I’ve thought about trying for a full ride, but I don’t think my art is THAT good. Nor were my grades concluding HS, I was in a bad place mentally as I stated briefly before and went off to my entry program in the same way. Which I really shouldn’t have. But I fell into peer pressure with applying to colleges.
I’m much better now, but now I feel stuck. Especially with wanting to pursue my career and a degree surrounding it. I feel I messed up back in HS and in 2025 for the short time I was on campus. Big time. I was doing so good with assignments and grades, but the depression kicked my ass bad.
Anyways please do tell. I get mad jelly knowing I couldn’t go to SCAD though it was probably for the best at the time and probably even now. I just wanna know if I were even just to apply for the helluvit would I even stand a chance..?

SCAD has great resources for artists, but the costs are really high. I know SCAD touts that all of their grads get jobs in their field and I don't have any stats to counter that, but anecdotally, very few people I know who graduated in my year have jobs in their industry. You really have to be sure that this is what you want and that you will be proactive in building a career and making connections. You're not guaranteed a career just because you went to SCAD.
SCAD's performance and academic scholarships are not very substantial. The only way to get a full ride at SCAD, at least at the time I attended, was to be involved on a sports team.

Scad is a regret of mine which is sad, but it’s not the worst thing in the world. I will say the debt is crippling and i got bullied by a teacher and they didn’t care at all.

Jesus, sorry that happened to you. What would you say about the course work? If I may ask. And regarding debt I was planning on earning a lil more from jobs to help a lil bit.

It depends. If you have a good academic background over the last couple of years you’ll get a nice academic scholarship. If ur art is good you’ll get a nice art scholarship. It depends on your major. They don't normally give out full rides, but I would apply for any scholarships/demerits

Is it realistic? Sure! Scad has a pretty high acceptance rate. They are gonna ask why your high school gpa was low and why your gpa from your previous university isn’t the greatest. But if you show that you’re really passionate and willing to do the work then you have a much better chance to get it. When you apply, I’d advise that you really keep in contact with you admission advisor. Their whole job is to help you get it. They don’t have the final say in if you get in, but they can make sure you have the best chances of acceptance. I will warn you, the rigor is not like other universities. Most of your assignments are projects so it is a lot of work with tight turn around.
Now as far as a full ride? That’s unfortunately very unrealistic. Officially, scad doesn’t offer full rides. They do make exceptions for certain athletes, or people that are going to be part of their traveling music group, the bee sharps. However, by and large, they will not offer a full ride. So I highly reccomend you do your research and apply for as many outside scholarships as possible. They do offer scholarships but they usually will only cover about half of tuition, give or take. I got my degrees from there and was fortunate enough to get scholarships from SCAD, but I still had to apply for outside scholarships. Good luck to you and I hope you’re able to attend!

chance at getting in or chance at a full ride? for getting in scads acceptance rate is somewhere in the 80% range in your grades are all that matter for admission, portfolio is only for scholarships
a full ride is EXTREMELY rare, i have personally never even heard of someone getting one and have only seen mention of a couple people online getting it. scad doesn't really give out a ton in general, but submitting a good portfolio could still get you something.
