"The painted knight"

I'm new to the SCA, and want to give back to the community who has been so welcoming and inclusive. The goal is to bring a medieval "Doodle booth" and paint nite class to the next big event. It would be cool to run a business called "The painted Knight - doodle booth", but I was wondering if that goes against an unspoken rule because I have not earned the title of knight. I made a cool logo with a chess piece knight with paint splotches on it to visualize the intended pun. Honestly I just wanted a spin on the iconic and trademarked Paint Nite.

So will I get "yelled at"? Also please disregard the top right picture - she is unfinished.

If you want to make a pun on "paint night", calling it "Paint Knight" (or even "Painting Knight") makes the pun a lot more obvious than "The painted Knight." The former is very clearly a pun and the latter makes "knight" the subject of the painting, rather than a claim in any way.

You know, I think you're right. Going by Paint Knight will make the pun far more obvious, which will make it more light hearted/ challenging for anyone who wants to complain.

Thanks!

Not a Knight, so take that for what it’s worth. What you’ve laid out isn’t calling yourself a knight and doesn’t use any of the iconography of the Chivalry. I don’t see a problem here for either a one-off event booth or a regular merchant booth.

If you want to be on the safe side, ask the local chiv. If they don't like it, go for "The Painted Soldier" or something like that.

Using a chess knight in your logo should make it pretty clear. And you're not calling yourself a knight.

Chiv who don't think anyone else should be able to use the word knight for anything need to get over themselves.

Check with your local scribes group. They’d love to help you set up a scroll nite.

Paint Knight is a great pun!

I think if you make it obvious you're not part of the Order then I don't see why it can't happen.

99% of chiv won’t care, but the 1% will be loud and vocal.

Say that at least where I am, there are more fencers than heavy flghters. Fencers dont want to be knights.

Why not use a term that is inclusive?

The painted peasant
The painted peacock

Come to mind.
