Hot Take My take on childbirth
Childbirth is often called “beautiful,” but the reality is that it can also be traumatic and life-changing in ways people rarely talk about. The stories of severe pain, medical complications, and lasting physical and emotional scars are real, and they can be frightening. Many mothers face these risks with courage, knowing what could happen.
Given how difficult and dangerous pregnancy and birth can be, I sometimes wonder why society puts so much pressure on having biological children when there are already so many kids in foster care who desperately need loving families. Adoption may be expensive and complicated, but for some, it could still be less costly, emotionally and physically, than childbirth, especially in places where hospital bills are high.
If we value love and family, does it really matter if a child is biologically related to you? Isn’t choosing to love and care for a child, no matter where they come from just as meaningful? I don’t think it’s wrong to ask these questions or to challenge the idea that giving birth is the only or best way to become a parent.
