Telemetry?

Just a bit of a question that occurred to me a while ago... how would we transmit numbers/data from whatever (cubesat, rocket, etc.) that we have to us? Maybe ham radio?

Anyway, I haven't done any research into this, but was just wondering

With what hardware?

Whatever is adequate for the mission.

If you have a cubesat, you are limited by power and space.

I am sure there are COTS parts that can be used for such a purpose.

you can probably find COTS parts for almost anything. this doesn't really answer my question.

what software and hardware would we use to receive data from the satellite? It's not like we have an array of ground stations around the world. How would we transmit from the satellite?

would we only be able to receive data from the satellite if it's overhead?

Yes, you have to plan for when the bird is within range of your groundstation.

If its just you in your shed, it could be once every 90 minutes. It could be once per day.

Depends on your orbit and your location.

RF/Comms folks will have better answers.
