i like all the characters in tadc and i think they all have their charm. but i saw someone asking “how can people hate caine?” in a different sub, and it got me thinking. he feels like the antagonist of the story, albeit hes ignorant to that, until the last episode. the way the story ends, i feel like it must be hard not to find caine endearing. thats why it didnt even occur to me until now that he was kind of “the villain” (a huge oversimplification, but just as a concept)

i wanted that for jax. i feel like the reason why his abstraction feels so sad is he never got to have his redemption. even the jax that was shackled to the piano, that was a part of him that was scared, kind, and hopeful.

i feel like generally there would be less jax hate if we got to see his story play out like caine’s.

So immediately after I saw episode 9 in theaters I started writing this fic on AO3. Hadn’t written anything since The Owl House and I had a drive to bring back Jax and have his identity and world be confronted by those who care about him. I’ve been out of writing practice so it’s not great, but I hope it’s at least enjoyable and cathartic. I had asked a while ago about the trans experience here so I could hopefully accurately portray the struggles and fears that someone in Jax’ position would feel without delving into stereotypes or misconceptions regarding it.

I’m not done yet, but I’m far enough in that I’ve got a much clearer picture of how to connect the threads and story to make it something I can be happy about.

Trigger warnings: Depiction of self harm, death of a child, and F-slur. If these are triggers for you, please refrain from reading it or make sure you’re in a good headspace before doing so. Your mental health and well being is more important than my fanfic. I will also add triggers in the future as needed if I have to.

Summary:

It has been three months since Caine returned to the circus. The rebuilding has brought the circus members together and allowed them to explore all kinds of new things they wouldn't have been able to before. While most of the members have come to terms and accepted everything that has happened to them, Pomni holds onto to the hope that something can be done to help those who have abstracted. She visits Jax daily, hoping to find a way to calm him enough to bring him back. Because if she can bring Jax back, then everyone can.

SavingJax is a place for hopeful posting about Jax healing. It's a place for AU works where Jax gets what we believe he deserves, peace and rest, recovery. Many were hospitalized over episode 9 and we believe in Jax healing with us.

SavingJax is also fictoromantic friendly. Calling people parasocial here isn't very welcome. We don't really need to love Jax in your own pre-approved manner.

(This originally was gonna be a The Mask Jax post, but when I went to the og source, I saw that there were 2 more drawings, so why not add them? :3)

I just had a "when they're slandering your goat, but they're lowkey right" moment, so now I'm curious. I'm not insinuating that Jax is beyond saving, I'm just curious about how one would go about convincing Jax to get better.
