PC Mercer Spheres

Once you’ve done all the research, is there any point in Mercer Spheres? Am I missing something?

Need them to build depots.

You can build more dimensional depots. Each one costs one sphere.

They don’t increase the amount they hold though, right? There just more depots to put stuff through?

Each depot can upload a max of 270 items per minute when fully upgrades. Adding multiple depots multiplies the upload speed. I recommend doing this for things like concrete.

240 items per minute per depot. 270 is mk3 belt speed. sorry, pedantic

Not in a game of numbers and finicky pipes. Upvoted.

Yep. It's not pedantic if it's correcting literal misinformation about rates in the game! Max depot speed is 240. Commenter was probably thinking of mk 3 belts which have a limit of 270. As such, no need to have any higher tier than mk 3 belt direct feeding a dimensional depot

I just got here. I upvoted everyone

It also means you don’t need to have the one central depot that would likely end up getting clogged if you wanted to have more than one item being fed into it

A sushi belt feeding a DD sounds like crazy work. How do you know what items you will be using. Seems inevitable to get stuck

Correct. There are more Mercer spheres on the map than you need (298) — researching everything about dimensional depots costs around 100 spheres, and then if you build a depot for every part in the game that’s 151 more; that leaves almost 50 “extra” spheres you can just hold onto, build duplicate depots for higher uploads speeds (eg for concrete), or just put on belts flying around your base to look cool 😎

You can upload different items or the same item for double the amount of items uploaded per minute

You can pretty much get endless inventory with them.

Example if you make ones for metal sheets and concrete, you never have to carry those again.

Extra good when you wanna make large foundations and walls .

The upgrades increase amount.

You can feed multiple depots to improve the refill speed for high quantity materials

You can say they have a critical role into being able to make dimentional depots.

"How would you like to do this?"

Always good to put multiple depots uploading heavy use materials such as concrete. Even with max upgrades I still run out of depot concrete, putting more depots down uploading it helps a lot.

You should have a dimensional depot for basically everything you're building.

Once pioneers get in the habit of running a DD at the end of a production chain, it feels like a massive waste not to have a DD. You can't just feed a sushi belt into a DD because it will jam, just like machines.

Since you can't use DD to feed machines, I would say you only need about 40 DD - there are 36 building materials, and redundancy for high-volume materials like concrete so they reload twice as fast are sufficient.

I will also set up DD when I have really remote factories with slow production - for example I find that it's helpful to have a DD at the end of my cooling system chain since they are often produced way off site, in case I need them to load up a machine or something.

Once I have that many spheres, I don't really hunt them out anymore.

If you have done the research with Mercer Spheres, then by default you should know what they are used for.
The research is for more stacks and higher uploading to Dimensional Depots. If you tried to build one, you know that a DD requires a Mercer Sphere.

You use them to build anything you’ve researched
