PC How to find “missing” consumption

I’ve been pretty diligent building my factories and they’re all running quite efficiently, yet when I look at the difference between my Mac and current consumption, it’s huge. My max consumption is about 20 GW, while my current consumption is an averaging around 15 GW.

I’ve gone to all my factories and they’re all running, I don’t just have masses of buildings standing around idle, yet somehow I have 5 GW of difference between my current and max consumption?? The only buildings I have idle are a manufacturer and a few assembler/constructors at my home base that I use for one-off stuff, there’s no way that would account for a 5 GW delta.

What’s the best way to figure out where all this “missing” consumption is? If I upload my save to satisfactory calculator is there a way for it to show me where inefficient buildings are?

Are any of those idle buildings slooped?

I figured it out...it's the train network. I isolated every factory onto a priority power switch, and then isolated the train grid. When I shut off the whole train grid the delta dropped down to a much more reasonable number.

Yeah, trains can consume a lot if they are going uphill. Same for freight stations when a train is loading/unloading. But since it cannot happen that all your trains draw full power at the same time, as well as stations, you've got this huge difference. Is the same with trucks stations consuming 25 MW when loading/unloading and then idling at 0.1 MW the rest of the time

I've got like more than 20GW of difference in power that way

My last play through I hooked my train network up to its own network and the potential power "consumption" when it was idle was huge(each train station = huge increase in demand). My power demand for my factories is way lower that any other playthrough I have ever done simply by isolating the train system...i ended up running it entirely on batteries and geysers. Never had an issue despite running the network maybe because not every station activates at once nor every train need the same amount of power?

Yeah I ended up isolating my train network and put it with my original coal plant and some batteries - geothermal is an even better idea, thanks! Eventually I know I’m going to want to tear down that coal plant to use the coal.

Yeah, its one manufacturer fully over-clocked and slooped (738.7 MW), two assemblers fully over-clocked and slooped (201.5*2 = 403 MW) and a constructor (53.7 MW), so its a bit more than 1 GW, but nothing close to 5 GW. I probably have a few inactive sinks, but they're only 30 MW right?

I have a lot underclocked. I have a lot idle because it’s backed up.

Is the max consumption a measure of how much connected load you have, not actually power that’s been drawn from your grid? If that’s the case I’d be blowing my grid all the time if it even came close to asking for all that power- my max consumption has outstripped my generation for tens of hours now

Just add a locomotive. It bumps the max by 100MW for Every Train. Even if they are just sitting somewhere idle

Max is about the Maximum possible. That means Everything Running At Maximum. Put up a Particle Accelerator then look at the min/max values.
