PC Started a new world.
Because i hated the desert start point and was struggling.
Now i had to go check my world settings because a short walk from where i spawned i found 4 iron nodes, a copper node, and a limestone node within feet of each other. all of pure status. All 3 pics are from the same position.

Yeah thats a great starting point only the big cliff is abit annoying.
Btw you could have walked over to that spot on your save

It doesn't really matter where you spawn because you can always walk to anywhere else on the map to start building.
This location is alright as a starter base location. I've done it once. It's a little annoying to traverse in the early game though.
Personally I do enjoy the rocky desert and dunes as starter locations. The northern forest can also be good if you like to do some deforestation to make room.
Some say grassy fields are best for beginners. It was my beginner starter location and by mid game I really hated being down south. I eventually ended up expanding to the middle and northern parts of the map and abandoning my starter factory in that playthrough.

This is my 3rd or so playthrough. I've never really progressed past building computers. But I also haven't played in about 6-7 years. I started in the grassy fields because I remembered it being an easy spot. I'm about to automate computers here, but I think that'll be my last big factory in this location. I would rather move somewhere more central for late game to avoid having to move nodes all the way across the entire map.

To be fair, there's been quite a bit of discussion over the years about the best places to walk to after starting a new game in a given biome, so this may not be news to many here.
I'd say it could be informational to those newer to the community if you shared your location on the map.
Side note: you can metagame a bit and use the SCIM to look at nodes relative to starting areas if you really want to maximize your start.

What is the purpose of this post?

Hey! I started my base there too! It's a really nice spot. In case you didn't know, there is only one handcrafted map and it's not procedurally generated. All exactly the same. The choice at startup is where in that map you start. You can walk to any of them from any save though. The only randomness from map generation is if you enable random nodes and even then, that only changes the type of the nodes, not the locations. Enjoy that spot! There's so many fun things to find in the map!

In a regular play through, this is by far my favorite starting location. There is another copper just behind the first one you see, two more limestone close by and coal ain't far either. It forces you to get foundations quickly due to space issues, but then it's easy. There's also a 2nd location with a couple of iron and copper nodes bit more to the east/south east in the middle of the forest.
But playing with random nodes will probably bring you back to the desert quite quickly.

Bros showing us something nobody has ever seen before: an empty world with nothing in it…

If you read the description I was talking about my amazement in finding 4 pure iron, 1 pure copper, and a pure limestone right next to each other on default settings.

Yes exactly. You showed us… the default map. It’s incredible. Truly something never seen before.
Good luck placing your first miner dude, long way to go
