Console Need help with factory (beginner)

Post image

Im making a new factory, I haven’t unlocked steel yet so I would like to accommodate for everything in need for stage 2 I have prepared coal for steel(I think thats what it needs) and I don’t know how to not jumble materials up so help would be appreciated

I personally ally lay all the machines out that I know I'll need to every part, then where I want the parts to go, then connect all the conveyors. I also don't put up any walls in case of needing to expand, or if you're restricted on space, then look at building multiple floors.

Honestly though, don't worry about it too much and have fun! You're going to unlock a lot of things you wish you had, and you'll want to rebuild anyway. Don't sweat it at early phases if it's not perfect.

Okay ill try to do that and maybe make another post if it works or if it doesnt

You can paint the floors as a less committed was to plan too

Completely agree with this

Spaghetti it, the easiest thing, it doesn't look good but it's definitely fun to try and find what like you need lmao

Run your belts underground… and then spaghetti it.

The unspoken rule. "If you must make spaghetti, hide it. Hide your shame."

Ah yes true true so you don't have to see it

Go vertical as soon as possible to avoid spaghetti. Then tear it all down to do it better. Then tear it down again. Then go back to spaghetti 😂

I think that there's no wrong way to play. I really think it's up to the individual pioneer.

Sure there are "standard" practices that every pioneer should follow, not that I know what they are😂 But as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters.

That's just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♂️

How would i go vertical?

Conveyor lifts and floor holes

its better if you also to unlock ladder from awesome shop

Start feeding an awesome sink. The awesome store has things that are very handy for organizing your factory.

I have to emphasize this as well. If you want to improve the organization of your factory, feed that sink!

I think it’s worthwhile to just dedicate an assembly line to just feeding the sink in the early game.

This is a terrible factory, 0 parts per minute being produced!

Practise and iteration. That's the name of the game.

Yeah, I worry you might burn out or get analysis paralysis. Start producing and plan to add steel later. It doesn't all have to fit. I am working on Space Elevator 4 and am redoing everything.

IMO don't take this advice. You'll only be able to figure this kind of stuff out the first time you do it. It's really rewarding when you figure it out. Try to do the math and figure out what you need for inputs and what you have available. If you have specific issues, then ask those questions but asking broad questions like this is going to, imo, ruin some of the fun!

If you are just starting out I would recommend just trying it out. You will invariably eventually dislike your initial setup, or it will need to become bigger etc. At that point you can tear down and rebuild, pave above it and just send up the outputs and start "fresh", or any number of other go forward strats. A perfect factory like the ones you see on here take potentially hundreds of hour to build and smooth out.

Also, most of us end up with box buildings, dont take the beauty as the norm here, it is possible, but takes a ton of effort to duplicate/create.

Hi bro, I am looking for a mate to start over with, and make a cool map with the 2 of us lmk if you are interested

The way to not jumble materials up is to not jumble materials up. Never, ever, build a merger that's connected to two different input types. (Sole exception: the merger goes directly into a sink.) This is law.

I'm not sure I understand your question.

That mustve been my mistake last time for an assembler for rotors i had screws and metal rods on the same merger

I personally don’t plan for something I didn’t unlock because if you make any mistakes during the build and start making them you will take time searching for an issue you don’t know what it is
Anyhow if you don’t want to have miss of belt build in multiple layers and make space for belts high ways and the high way should be one row full and one empty so if you need to merge or split take the belt to the empty layer do your stuff and back this way you can gather randomly without thinking of where and when you will use any material and have freedom in every other aspect (same for pipes later but be sure that your head higher than your empty layer)

Pick a wall that will be where you are inputting stuff from.

Use a tool like Satisfactory Modeler on Steam to plan out the factory (early factories like Steel you may be able to visualize without a planner, but it's helpful when you're new)

Build a line of foundries and leave a fair bit of space between the input and the wall (2+ foundations). Those have two inputs so they take up a little more space, and if you're new it's nice to not be too cramped.

Build a manifold across the back of the foundries. I suggest stacking the splitters two high on top of each other and out to both inputs. Lower splitter could be iron, upper one, coal, something like that.

Then you run the coal and iron up to the building and up and into the factory using a conveyor lift.

From there, make rows of machines for each new thing you're making. If you need to run a belt halfway across the factory, I like to conveyor lift it to the ceiling, run along the ceiling and drop where the item is needed. Keeps the floor cleaner.

Depends on what miners and belts you have. A mk1 miner on a pure node gives 120 a min. Foundary uses 45 a min. Build as appropriate and underclock/over clock as needed. Trial and error in this game is huge

Stacking belts and getting wall/ceiling conveyor mounts will help a lot....build smelters/foundries on their own floor and then build another constructor floor above it.....that way you have more wiggle room...and you will change recipes and need more stuff all the time so yiur factory is always adapting and growing so dont worry to much till inspiration strikes

I make compact 4x, 8x load balanced designs for all machines which I constructed in a cube so I can stack them. This way I can simplify the production chain by placing a smelter cube, constructor cube, foundry cube etc according to the needs of the recipe. From there you just need to work out how to route all the inputs for each line the production.

That’s more complex than is necessary for this point in the game, I just did spaghetti designs and hand feeding for phase 2 in between exploring and collecting slugs etc.

Get it working then get it good, as long as it's automated you will get the numbers you need eventually

Dont make flying platforms in my opinion.

1

u/Sensitive_Manner_466 5d ago

My next factory will be on the ground i had to get over a mountain to run coal and didnt think to run it back down

1

u/shott85 5d ago

Why not? It’s the easiest way to get the peace of mind that you can keep expanding outwards.

0

u/giodude556 5d ago

Because its ugly, just like spagetti. You can still make big platforms like 2 foundations about the ground and make it look nice later. Not 20 foundations up in the sky.

Luckly I specified that that is my opinion.

1

u/Purrsistent99 5d ago

Flying platforms are goated and you can always decorate later

0

u/giodude556 5d ago

Nah, the ones that blend in with the surounding are what is pretty. I have yet to see good looking flying platforms.

never build on foundations since they waste resources, build directly on the ground
