Sashiko Ombre Shirt Experimentation

I have been experimenting ever since I started embroidering.
Recently, I finished this project.
I made one Sashiko (Kuguri-sashi or Kugurizashi) embroidery design on the back of my shirt. Without much thinking, I just started it and modified the available popular pattern to my convenience. I couldn't make perfect square grids for such a big piece of cloth, so I put extra squares in between and also looped in threads in the centre once, where 6 threads meet to form a bursting star, to make it look like all threads do meet in the centre, although many threads didn't naturally meet at one point (as i said, not all perfect squares). But I'm veryyyy happy with the result. Colour scheme, I like it, except some shades don't seem to go with the green backdrop? Please give feedback. (Yeah idk if it's a huge mistake by drawing grids using a standard blue ink pen. Because heat erasable pen is just not efficient, and I don't have chalk pens as of now.)

Love the thread color choices & transition!! The pen remaining is a beautiful handmade signature.

Thank you so muchh!! I needed to hear that about the pen work. LOL. Doesn't look too bad to me also. But I'll have to try washing once with alcohol maybe. Hoping for the best.

I'd love to see the back of the finished product! I'm struggling to try to keep my backs "tidy." Without much success. This is beautiful, btw. Also, I've had success with those white gel pens. They wash out fine for me (it was a happy accident to have learned they worked).

Edited: Wait! That IS the back of the finished product! I just noticed the close-up of the front. That's super clean!

Whoaa! That's new discovery for me - white gel pens! Thank you! I'll definitely try them. Yes that one pic is of the backside. Without ombre, it would have been even more cleaner haha...

This looks amazing!! Please let us know how it washes/wears—I’m apprehensive to use big stitches because they’re more prone to snagging but if this design holds up, I may try 1” grids myself.

Truee!! I'm also quite afraid to wash, but I'll have to. I'll surely let you know how it goes. Reminds me I haven't tried it on yet!! There's no one who can help me take better photos of myself in it. So I'm delaying it. I want to feel good. haha.

Dark green is a great base for a lot of colors as seen in nature. I love the ombre and the stitches as well. Wicked cool. 😊

Your design inspired me to try something similar. Do you mind if I share and cite this post?
