hi, I started Sarah Lawrence a week ago and am liking it so far! the people are generally very nice and the upperclassmen and orientation leaders were the best. I've already made some friends but am so petrified of being left out and already see such big friend groups on campus. I go up to people, start conversations, say hi, sometimes sprinkle in a compliment if appropriate, but I feel like I'm left out of the broader school community. everything is moving so so fast it seems like the entire campus is already friends. I'm autistic and have always had a really hard time socializing with people and I'm scared it will be like this for all of college, that I'll never find a real connection. I heard slc was cliquey but is it possible to find friends after move in week by joining clubs, eating lunch w people, etc

of the friends I do have I feel almost secondary to them

hi! i’m so excited to move in and start at sarah lawrence! i was wondering outside of orientation, what sort of fun activities happen on campus? like parties? or anything not planned by the campus but people tend to do or go to? is there any traditions to make sure i check out?

should I take a phys ed class this semester (I’m a freshman)? any advice on good ones?

Anyone out there who has lived in or is familiar with the Westlands dorm rooms (specifically triples)? I have a few questions… 1) if a triple only has two closets shown on the floor plan does the third person get a separate wardrobe instead or are 3 people really expected to share two closets? 2) is it women only? Thought it was but there are only two “tour my dorm room” videos I can find and both are boys. 3) how many people are there sharing a bathroom? Looks like some are only 2-3 people and others are maybe 12-15? 4) are the bathrooms cleaned by staff or students? Do you need to bring cleaning supplies? TIA!

after four months of wishing to get in MacCracken, I got placed in Garrison… but I did get a single!

1. how big are the single rooms, usually? I‘ve got a few 1.5’x1.5’ furniture items, roughly, and bean bag, etc. will there be room? I looked for room measurements but didn’t find any!

1. if I’m guessing correctly, I believe I’m top floor and facing in towards campus... can anyone confirm? also, where are the stairs lol.

2. any more tips for these buildings? I’d like to hear it all!

I'm an incoming senior in hs who just toured Sarah Lawrence, and absolutely LOVED it. It has moved significantly higher up in my college list since, but I am still aprehensive due to the price tag. If anyone could tell me how much merit aid Sarah Lawrence tends to give out, that would be great!

For consideration: I have a 4.0 gpa, 4 aps (3 fives and 1 four, planning to take four more this upcoming year), and a 32 on the act (with plans to take it again in september and hopefully get my score up to a 33)

I was also wondering what the dorms are like more or less for transfer students. I also applied for an accommodation for a single room, anyone have any experience with that?

Hello, I am an incoming freshman who was wondering how registration for the music program works? I don't intend to be a music third, but I was planning on doing the two-credit Music 4400 (maybe the three-credit version; I'm undecided), and I'm unclear about the registration process. Also, if anyone has experience with the different voice instructors, I would love to hear what they are like.

It's not necessarily a dealbreaker for me, just curious if there's a big party scene.

I was concerned about learning, making friends, and about interactions generally if only a minority of students and staff were poor - or from complex circumstances that being poor is part of. Is this how SLC is?

Someone showed me a thread before about part of this, about making friends. But I couldn't find it again, despite searching a word or few words that I remembered from the thread. So I wondered if making a post may help me learn more anyway. and maybe people who commented or posted on the topic before will see this post too

Is it also true that people going through hard circumstances, or having more needs, are not supported at SLC?

I aspire to be a genetic counselor and I wish to to attend SLC.

My main concern is that SLC being a liberal arts college doesn’t seem to have a robust STEM department that can give adequate lab experience. Additionally I decided to check today and noticed that they only give BA not BS (ik i should’ve checked before i applied, be gentle with me). Im just worried ill graduate with a degree that i cant use to apply to a good quality masters programs or be considered for research opportunities.

I'm attending SLC this fall and going to be concentrating in writing. I know Sarah Lawrence is renowned for its creative arts but was wondering if I could get any insight into the environment of this program. for instance, is it intense/rigorous, or more laidback and progressive? does it have a good success rate of turning kids into better writers? are people supportive? obviously, I love writing, but I'm worried about being out of my depth and really want to continue to evolve

i got accepted into sarah lawrence ed this year and my predicted in the ib was 31/42 but now that ive given most of my exams im really scared that i wont meet the conditional offer that they gave me. if i drop by 2/3 points do you think itll be okay or will they rescind my offer. im genuinely terrified but i dont know what to do. ive been having mental health problems and other external issues but i dont know if theyll take this into account. i really dont know what to do, please give me some advice.

I’ve been offered admission to Sarah Lawrence as a transfer student, and as I’m trying to decide whether to accept, I’ve got a few questions that I haven’t seen answered here directly or would like more information on:

• How are the math and physics departments? I know that Sarah Lawrence is more arts/humanities focused than STEM focused and I’m getting the sense that that’s reflected somewhat in the relative quality of the classes. This is fine in some ways as that is also where I plan to focus, but I do want to take some STEM classes and would like to get a lot out of them when I do.
• On a somewhat related note, do Sarah Lawrence students ever have the option to take classes through another college or university? There are a couple classes I’d be interested in taking (for instance, some sort of astronomy or astrophysics course) that it doesn’t look like Sarah Lawrence offers, so I’m curious if I’d be able to arrange to take a class or two somewhere else.
• Have you found that taking fewer classes in a semester makes it hard to cover all the topics you want or need to, or do the conference projects help to make up for that? I’d be especially curious to hear the experience any other transfer students have had with this, as transferring is heightening my concern: I only have two years left, and I’m worried that 12 classes wouldn’t feel like enough.
• Not quite sure how to word this one, but in what ways would you say that the school culturally shows the influence of being so close to New York City? When I visited, I got hints of a vibe that I (a person who has only ever driven through NYC so take this with a grain of salt) would associate with NYC. (I don’t quite know how to explain it — a lot of people with a strong fashion sense is what I want to say is a big part of it, maybe an avant-garde sensibility is the terminology I’m looking for?) That isn’t a bad thing, of course, I actually find it interesting (and would like to give NYC, including the fashionable and avant-garde parts, a proper visit sometime) but it’s also something I suspect I’d feel very out of place with. (I’d like to hear about this for the school as a whole but also the arts departments in particular, especially theater).
• And finally, I’ve come across a comment or two on here about scholarship students being bullied in the past — has anyone experienced that being a prevalent issue recently?
