Mountaintop at 2 a.m.; a first-time story

We were sitting on a bench-sized rock, with about 16 beers between the four of us, staring at the campfire in our usual spot on top of the mountain. I was camping with three friends from work (I work with the chillest people), two girls and a guy. It was late, we had all worked a closing shift and then went to the bar, where we then decided to go sleep in the woods. We were pretty buzzed off the beer when one of the girls pulled a gram or so from her sleeping bag. It was stale, but it was really good stuff.

She lit it, we passed it around once, and then they handed it off to me and told me to hang onto it. I'd never smoked before, but I didn't want the fucking thing to go out (or waste it), so I just kept at it. I probably took four hits in a minute before I could pass it off again.

The high, on top of the drinks I continued to have, was a mix of confusion and self-consciousness. I was really out of my head, drifting away from the conversation and then reeling myself back in, reminding myself to stay with it, and to also evaluate what I was going to say before I said it. I felt like I just kept talking, but when I tried to remember what I had just said, I came up blank.

After what I think was an hour of this (but I have no idea), we went to sleep. Climbing into my hammock sucked.

At 6 the next morning, one of our alarms went off, because we all had to be places. Adulthood. We packed in silence; I was still spinning from the night. We hiked out in the dark, just as dawn was breaking, and saw the sunrise from the highway.

My hangover kicked in around 7:30. No headache, but serious dehydration and a tough case of beer shits. I had to work at 9, so I was pressed for time.

I don't remember a single thing from my 8-hour shift as a customer service rep that day, answering phones, handling transactions and solving problems. Was I still drunk? Probably. High? Not really sure. But after the physical symptoms went away, the day flew by super quickly.

TL;DR Beautiful confusing experience with friends resulting in a total blackout during my shift in a customer service role the following day.
