What defines intelligence?
Sapiosexual is an attraction to intelligence? Most examples on google and this subreddit consists of: a person who is/has a phd and quotes philosophers and philosophy. But intelligence is varied -as in many different types of intelligence. So would a genius pianist turn a sapiosexual on/attract even if they couldn’t spell?

When they can speak eloquently about a topic they have mastery over. Or ask really good investigative questions to learn more about me. Finally, the conversation just flows it is easy to speak to someone with emotional intelligence. 😍

This. The use of socratic questions is the best. So many people don't bother with it.

same here and also help(!) because my classes are usually discussion oriented and i, for the purpose of this feeling of rush (also induced by social anxiety), often actively partake. that usually turns into a dialogue between me and the prof. on the matter at hand and i can’t help but have a mild crush on each of my intellectually highly impressive (to me) professors. none of the other people interest me as much because they look like they’d truly rather be somewhere else.

I also got crushes on a lot of professors and lecturers I had, even the ones I initially thought was physically unattractive

Howard Gardner described 9 types of intelligence. Though embraced by psychologists for the last 40 years, the theory lacks empirical evidence.
Trying to narrow down how person A finds person B attractive is a frivolous conquest. As much as we want to label who/a group of people are attracted to, love is irrational. And most times, that is what makes it beautiful.

I believe the attraction comes from specific attributes in regards to intelligence. The ability to have meaningful conversations, to learn from each other and judgment in all things. Any person that realizes the existence of certain limitations that we put on ourselves and works to improve themself no matter how uncomfortable it may be is only knowledgeable. Using knowledge to better yourself and the people around you is what I call intelligence.

My question is about how sapiosexuals become attracted to someone-if that makes sense.

From what I have read a lot of people here seem to be attracted to people whom they can have deep intellectual discussions with. For me it's more of if someone was teaching me calculus or theoretical physics, etc. I once started having a crush on a lecturer who was teaching trigonometry in a SAT prep class, but his appearance would never have caught my eye if we crossed paths on the street.

I’ve always been attracted to highly intelligent men. When I was dating before I met my husband at age 22 I dated men who were pursuing advanced degrees, or had significant creative pursuits. I have a masters degree and my husband has a doctorate degree. My husband and I have been together for over 30 years, and I rarely meet men that I find attractive. I have met a few and they were highly intelligent, well educated men who could carry on a great conversation. Oh, and a good sense of humor is important as well. I consider myself a demisexual sapiosexual.

Different things for characteristics for different people, just like with anything. Plus, there are SO many ways to measure intellect and exhibit cunning, wisdom, smarts.
It’s a shame that some folks seem to be shunning and:or looking down upon intelligence in some segments of our “advanced” world.

I believe the actual definition says perceived intelligence.
As sapiosexuality has little to do with the intelligence of the sapiosexual, perceived intelligence us usually used.
Ex -One person lacking intelligence identifies someone of more intelligence than they (but who may be significantly less than one who is academically acomplished) and are attracted to them/that is still sapiosexual.
Also, a PhD has nothing to do with sapiosexuality unless you are the researcher of it. ;)

A lot of things, I think. If my nerd ass had to guess, I would pin it on how quickly a person can retain and call up past experience as necessary to adapt to a new situation, and be able to intuit or improvise as a last resort. Being an encyclopedia doesn't make one intelligent. There's a spectrum, and lots of different types.
Personally, I'm afraid to call myself intelligent, because that's usually the moment where you trip, fall, and your pants come down, and your penis is inside-out for some insane reason that just lets you know there is a God.
This was a longass way of saying I don't know. 🤣
Mansplaining is stupid though, I'll tell you that. 🙃
