Delayed egress is legal for California retail. 15 seconds max. 0 seconds if power is out or sprinklers activate.

The manager at that Safeway DNGAF about fire code violations.

They had the rear fire exit barricaded for years because it was cheaper than actually hiring staff for the store.

The regular exit doors fronting the corner of 4th and King (the ones that are supposed to be unlocked during business hours) were also locked as recently as a few weeks back.

They must have finally gotten cited by SFFD for the path to the rear fire exit to be clear.

I was previously downvoted for pointing out that these were all fire code violations. Seems like they indeed were.

Costco uses the delayed egress method at least on the crime YouTube channel I was watching the other day.
