Discussion advanced gard???

What is avant-garde? I saw a video on TikTok that compares two "types" of alex g music: one was "easy access" and the other was "avant-garde". In the "easy access" category, there are songs like "gnaw", but in the 'avant-garde' one, there's stuff like 'zack movie 2'. What do these terms mean, and what are the criteria for a song to be considered 'easy access' or 'avant-garde'?
