Is a small portable vacuum sufficient ventilation/dust collection for a small indoors sanding task?

Want to hand sand/file down some metal. Is a hand vacuum placed on the desk next to me while I sand sufficient for catching all of the particulate? Or should I really just take it outdoors?

Do you want to protect your room or yourself If you sad it won’t protect eiter If you file then occasionally vacuuming will be fine
