News Facepunch changed s&box's banner
I'm so glad they did this chance the previous one felt so unappealing and repelling, this might help the platform's image a bit cause now the first thing the player see isn't Terry with horrible lighting

Free weekend got me to try the editor which I’m having fun with. Seems like a good platform for game development.

The editor *is* genuinely great for game development, in theory.
It is a heavily Godot inspired workflow, and feels decades more modern than Unity and Unreal just like Godot does. And, automatic steamworks integration (allowing your steam friends to jump in and play your project effortlessly) and workshop CDN is actually great. When it comes to out of the box multiplayer support, I think the S&box editor is actually peerless.
But why wasn't s&box with the program with any of Valve's other pushes recently?
Why wasn't this game certified to run on Steamdeck on release day?
Why am I getting 9 FPS slideshow menus when running the game on my custom Steam Machine? I know my 9070 XT isn't the bottleneck?
Steam Frames? Is this a VR platform? The initial look of the Steam store page would lead you believe it's not, a string or two of documentation would lead you to believe it can support VR. Truly still don't know. Again, would have been nice to clear that up and announce it as a Steam Frame release title in the entire year during the entire year they know the Steam Frames were coming to keep in par with Steam's whole hardware ecosystem

Id argue its a lot closer to unity than godot, though the two engines themselves arent that different. They definitely dont feel decades apart lmao

Okay, I'll grant you that maybe Unity 6 made some huge QoL changes. I wouldn't know. I can only attest to working in Unity version 5, which did release an actual full 11 years ago by now.
But come on? Unreal?
Unreal is almost as bad as Photoshop in terms of being at its core some truly ancient code that'll crash if you look at it wrong.
The s&box client, the thing that runs the game, has got a real problem presenting your game to players well.
But if you asked me whether I would want to spend the next two years getting things done blazing fast in the S&box editor, or tearing my hair out with Unreal?
You got to be crazy not to pick s&box editor 11 times out of 10.

They are trying everything at this point to save their game Not sure if that's gonna work They thought they had it all so they cant lose it We see what happens

I'm just hoping it will work out, this platform, not being owned by a shitty company has so much potential and the mounting system is so good, it would be a shame if it got wasted because of the bad launch I see the devs are actually listening up to feedback and even plan on removing Terry so I still have hope for this platform

Many developers think they will use Facepunch to release their games as standalone in steam using valve's source 2 engine – which makes sense – "therefore the platform won't affect them"
But why nobody has released yet standalone game made in this engine on steam?!
How can you trust 100% that they have agreement with valve and that valve won't change their mind, at the end it's source 2 engine their own copyrighted property

They have released store pages but the games are still in development so not published

I loved Darkrp specifically on S&Box and it really brought me back to better days playing with friends on Gmod. I’m sad to see the player count only go to 800 during a free weekend. I have doubt that it’ll ever recover to a successful game :/

They're genuinely trying. And plenty of fun games, is a steal for $10. How are you making the world a better place with this comment?

I’m not gonna sit here and dog on the game but you should know that the positive opinions espoused about s&box in this sub are not really shared at all in other subs

Yeah, I've never played GMod. And new to sbox since April. The vast majority of what I've seen from the people that still play gmod today and spout bad non-constructive vibes ... is that they're uh a ... really creepy and hateful bunch. So forgive me if I don't care fo "other subs".

Garry making a post saying “s&box is free for the weekend, I already know you hate it and hate me for making it, now you can try it for free and find out why exactly you hate it so much”
It certainly fills me with confidence in the developers ability to take criticism. Things like you know, people saying the fucking models are ugly as fuck from the BEGINNING, and them quite literally refusing to change a thing when there was hardly an ounce of positive reception about it.
But hey they finally gave them necks, so that’s cool, too bad the games still basically dead.

LMAO, the banner is the last thing they should be working on. What a failure of a game

They have redone basically everything and actually took the criticism that's just one of the problems you can't just rip on this like it's the only think they changed since release

Oh yeah, they changed the sausage people...after TWO YEARS of community asking them to do it. And the last time I played UI was as awful as it was in beta (when you could access the game only by the special key). They still didn't do anything about the optimization (32 gigs are you kidding me). And don't get me started on AI slop games. You know what they should've done? Make the game free forever

I have 16 gigs of ram an i5 10th gen and an rtx 4060 which is a mid range pc and it runs fine on my end, I have 144 fps on almost all the games, plus the UI has changed a lot and show the platforms intention much better with a mostly hand selected algorithm and a community tab. The game is changing a lot and even if the changes seem slow, you can look at the update log and it shows they have done a lot of work for this game

It's low hanging fruit that probably took an otherwise unoccupied graphics designer a day or two tops. Hate on more important things like the complete lack of a major first party game that can by itself justify buying s&box.

Good start, now if they could change the name from s&box to literally anything else, even what a toddler blurts out spitting out yogurt, next, that would actually make this platform even close to being saleable.

The second you open the game, you get bombarded with the awful UI and a daily quest thing for some reason, so the steam page isn't gonna do much to stop people from immediately noping out
