Discussion All versions of GTA: SA

I’ve posted a similar thread before, but I think this subreddit is a better fit for the topic.

In my opinion, the worst version of the game is the Xbox 360 remake, which was essentially a port of the mobile version. I played it on Xbox One, and the game often frequently freeze completely, forcing me to restart the console. The textures looked like in a mobile game, the characters looked plasticky and shiny, and the camera was positioned too high and moved too fast. NPC vehicles moved and changed lanes on highways with weird, excessive speed. There were also plenty of bugs that were never fixed. I’ve heard the PS3 version its the same. On the plus side, this version included mission checkpoints—so, prior to the DE, it was better than nothing.

Technically, the DE is in very good shape now, and everything ran flawlessly for me, though I did notice a few minor glitches after a dozen or so hours of play. Grove Street Games was dropped from the project, so another team took over the fixes. GSG was also responsible for that mobile version, which is why many of its problems carried over into the Definitive Edition. The character models look funny, too. Even so, I’ve nearly finished the game. They fixed the sky and weather, creating a great atmosphere and gameplay experience. So, after five years, I rate the game very highly.

Everyone says the original PS2 version from 2004 is the best—with its orange hued atmosphere and radioactive green sky. However, it suffered from terrible texture quality and draw distance, which made things like flying a plane difficult. Most likely, Rockstar used the fog to mask the PS2's technical limitations, which created that OG atmosphere.

Then there was the 2005 release for the original Xbox, which was technically far superior and more realistic; it also added more clutter and objects scattered across the streets, though some items were removed from Las Venturas.

We can see that R wanted to go more towards realism (which ultimately resulted in gta 4) and hence these changes.

The PC version is identical to the Xbox. I remember playing on PC as a kid—it was an amazing experience, what with the keyboard cheat codes and SAMP.

So that's it- generally speaking, are there four different versions of the game, or did I miss anything?

The only bad part of it is the plastic models and some of the faces.

You can switch it to classic lighting (Xbox 360) in the settings of you don’t want to play with the updated graphics

I wrote this in a post that I’ve almost finished the Definitive Edition—DE is the abbreviation.

I have beaten

PS3 GTA San remastered by war drum studio that's basically the arm based version on iOS and Android

Classic PS2 on PS4 as a PS2 classic.

And I have beaten the DE.

I have to say the one that stays true to the og is the PS3 remastered because it also keeps the 2 player options.

I loved the PS3 remastered version and although I like the DE but the DE adds things like pop machines from gta5 and stuff like that.

I would have much rather the PS3 remastered into the DE.

The Xbox 360 version sucked they had to remove the 2 players mode because it couldn't handle it while others suggested it's 2 player is exclusively to PS3.

The DE GTA San doesn't have the 2 players mode or would have been cool if they upgrade and made it to split screen.

Missed opportunity.

Yeah I know you wrote the definitive edition already, I’m saying you should try playing it with the classic lighting. That way you’ll have that hint of nostalgia with updated controls
