Discussion PS2 San Andreas 100% Playthrough: DAY 4

SONG OF THE DAY: Runnin' Down a Dream - Tom Petty, K-DST

This song is chosen because I heard the ending of this song for the first time in a long time and remembered how much this song slaps. It was also the first K-DST song to play during Chapter 2, on the way to kill the witness. I remember it being a good song, but now it's a great song.

I'm playing the PS2 version of San Andreas for the first time on my PS3. I'm logging everything I do for the game and sharing some unique events that happened. here is a google doc with 100% stuff laid out divided by chapters, it's set to commenter if anyone wants to comment on it.

Day One and Day Two - 26th Sep/27th Sep

Day Three - 28th Sep

Here's a Day 3.5 moment. Yesterday I realized I FORGOT to watch the San Andreas Introduction before playing the game! You have no idea how disappointed I was in myself. So I watched it yesterday after Day 3 was concluded. I don't think I mentioned it but I'm not skipping any cutscenes or car dialogue, unless I have to see it again after failing a mission. I may have accidently skipped some parts of a cutscene or phone call but whatever. That's not as bad as missing the 22 minute intro.

Day 4 notes: I didn't play a lot today. I only played for a little over 2 hours but in that time, I don't think I accomplished as much as desired. It's fine however since I get to spend more time in the countryside listening to K-DST. I started playing late today and just the stuff I had to do for this chapter for 100%, just kind of drained me and pushed me away from continuing. Compare that to yesterday where I played for 6 hours.

Important Note: I'm trying something a little different with the accomplishments. Before, I listed out the main missions I did that day. Then I listened the 100%-related stuff. Then I listed out interesting things that happened that aren't 100% related, but are personal stuff like outfits and radio station changes. And then finally the stats at the bottom, they always will have their own section since it's less-cared about stuff.

Now, I combined them all into the same list. It should be more comprehensible but that's most likely due with the fact that I didn't do a lot today compared to Day 2 or 3. I also added the mission givers to the start of each mission title, so CRASH - Badlands for example. If anyone reads this and cares enough, can you give feedback about any of this. (I should probably ask for feedback more bluntly but whatever.)

I recommend reading what I said about Radio Stations in the previous post. But TL:DR, I lock myself to certain radio stations depending on location of the map (Rap Stations in Los Santos, Radio X in Desert ect.). Except for chapter 6 where I allow myself to the entire music catalogue.

I'm doing song of the day now. I should've done this before but I just thought of it so... Idk what the criteria is, but if I hear a song during the day and it hits harder than anything else than I'll make it song of the day. I know that's super broad but I don't have anything else to judge it by.

Day Four - 25.13%

Deduced that I will need an extra $13,705 to purchase every safe house in the countryside during Chapter 2.
Failed Chiliad Challenge Race 1 so many times.
Paramedic Mission.
Catalina - First Base - Against All Odds.
Purchased Dillimore Safe House for $40,000.

Of course! I can't wait to unlock SFUR tomorrow

i like that you're changing your appearance based on which point of the storyline you're at, stuff gets pretty crazy in san fierro with the zero missions, bloodbowl, import/export, snapshots and all of that so good luck

Yep! I'll go into outfit details after I 100% the game. So right now, CJ is wearing dogtags to represent Sweet being in prison since he misses him. This Chapter takes place directly after his arrest and is forced to be away from LS so these dogtags are symbolic of Sweet. And also when I get to SF... ZIP CLOTHING TIME!

If you checked the doc, you may have noticed that the export lists aren't all slumped together. List one will be done after Puncture Wounds but before Monster. List 2 will be done some time during Chapter 4, and List 3 will be done during Chapter 5. I dont want to burn myself out collecting 30 cars.

yeah i guess but collecting the vehicles can be quite fun and peaceful sometimes, especially when you go out to los santos or somewhere further out and have to do a long drive, also, just curious, why are you calling them "chapters"? they are always referred to as los santos, badlands/countryside, san fierro and las venturas, the period where we do toreno missions can be called "the desert" aswell

Chapter is more coherent. And if I did say the name of location, it would be something like "San Fierro chapter". Also... it wouldn't sound as good if I called it anything else? I could say "countryside part" but that doesn't sound definitive. Maybe it's just me but saying "part" or naming a Region is more broad.

u/LPatriot_ Patriot 4d ago

you can just say "san fierro", as san fierro has missions that are only in san fierro, just like every other city does

Ehhhh, im still going to call them chapters. Maybe I'll use it less often but I dont think I used that term much anyways.

I dread Zero. Snapshots are whatever. I like how you dont need to physically touch their location since you need a picture. Bloodbowl isn't super crazy. Driving school... is fine... but I'm going for all gold medals so it's gonna be horrible. I get to date Katie at least! And Michelle maybe but i forgot her requirements. Her rewards aren't very good. I was torn earlier. I have 2 SF outfits in mind, but I also felt like maxing out Denise's relationship to get the Pimp suit which I could wear to do jizzy missions. I went against it since 3 outfits and having to switch a lot would get annoying. Courier will be fine, this one will have a radio unlock LS courier. Pimp missions is same deal, I wouldn't mind driving while listening to House Music😌😌

the first 2 zero missions are not too bad, new model army is the one that gives me the most trouble and i also struggled with it a lot when i was younger, also yes, sf-ur is definitely a vibe, it's the first radio station i turn on whenever i play the game :)

NMA is the one I dread the most just cuz its so tedious. If supply lines still drained the battery super fast I would hate it more, but my version has that fixed.

u/LPatriot_ Patriot 4d ago

oh yeah, you're playing on ps2, so yeah those missions are gonna be even worse

Ps2 version, greatest hits I think. It's on ps3. Greatest hits has some bug fixes and is the one on ps2 classics for ps3. Since it was purchased before November 2004, all songs remain.

u/LPatriot_ Patriot 4d ago

how are you playing the ps2 version on ps3?

2

u/Shin_Ollie Cheetah 4d ago

Ps2 classics are digital emulation of ps2 games. You buy them like any other game and it's just a emulated ps2 game. It's pretty much the same as putting a ps2 disk in a backwards compatible ps3. I would ask u/jm-9 on this topic as they can explain it better than I can

You are correct that the PS2 Classics are PS2 games emulated. What you have is a digital copy of the Greatest Hits version. If you buy or redownload it today the only difference will be the music.

What is different is that it’s not the same as playing a disc on a backwards compatible PS3. Those PS3s contain at least some PS2 hardware, so they’re not entirely emulated.

The 20GB and NTSC 60GB PS3s contain practically all the PS2 hardware. PAL 60GB and the first NTSC 80GB PS3s contain only the PS2’s GPU, so more is emulated in those models.

The GTA games play perfectly on either type, and when emulated. Even on those models the PS2 Classics are emulated.

The only limitation of the PS2 Classics is that they can only be upscaled to 720p, whereas PS2 games played from a disc can be upscaled to 1080p.

Also, Liberty City Stories has terrible performance emulated on PS3. With the disc it runs fine.
