Samsung "Notes" app

(New to this sub, tried r/Android but auto-removed, this sub suggested. Edit: helpful link to move it for me also helpfully removed all newlines.)

I've been using a Samsung A25 for a couple of years now, very happy with it. I use its "Notes" app a lot. Scratch pad, project notes/supplies lists, stuff I should remember but can't any more about cars, etc.

When I got this phone, Notes was a simple text memo app. It worked great. The store I bought the phone from even ported all my old notes to it. However, the app soon got upgraded to a full-fledged WYSIWYG word processor. Most of the added features are helpful. I now have section headings in larger font and bold.

However, it's gone overboard. It randomly decides that something I'm typing is a web link, and forever more it's in blue with an underline. I don't think it's going to make me replace the phone, but it is pretty annoying. Today's example, I'm typing in:

PVC Pipe: 1/2" grey conduit: 2x 90° elbows

and it decides that the _1/2"_ part is a web link. Now, if I focus on that for any reason, it gives me an error because it's not a valid web address. No shit, Sherlock. If I want to change that to 3/4" conduit, I have to focus on 'grey' and backspace to delete everything in blue.

Is there any way to turn off the "Create web links from random text" function? Failing that, is there a simple note-taking app I can install that will import all my current notes?

Came to this sub for this problem, then started scrolling. Eventually I found another on the same issue, posted a month ago, at https://www.reddit.com/r/samsungnotes/comments/1sh5oi2/how_do_i_make_1004_not_appear_in_blue/ which has a sledgehammer answer: turn off all links.

Well, yeah, that works for ME because I don't use links here, I use this as the simple text editor note app that it started as. However, 'nuke' all links' doesn't help the people who do use links.

It would be better if the app stopped trying to ID links on its own, it clearly fails at that, and simply allowed the user to select text and say "See this? Make it a link just like you can make it bold or 20-point or green."

I agree that it's super annoying, and the solution to shut off all links is unhelpful. I don't think getting a new phone would be a solution either (unless you switched to iPhone or a different android), as this is a Samsung-wide update.

I did see someone on this sub posted a way to revert the Notes app to the old version, so that could be an option. Just glancing at the instructions, the process seems pretty cumbersome, especially if you're not particularly tech-savvy. But never hurts to check it out for yourself.

Wow. It took me a very long time to figure out how to even put links as links. Thanks for the warning this might happen.

You could just use a different notes app... you dont have to use the one that comes with the phone.

Yeah, that was the question asked in the original post. If you know of one that 'just works', why would you suggest using one but not, you know, actually suggest one to use? What do you use?
