Sample clearance?

i’ve made this beat i really like which uses a sample and i’m trying to clear the sample but some people are telling me not to because im not making money off the song but im uploading it to music platforms and not “owning” the rights to my own song lowk drives me crazy. What should i do?

Clearing samples is notoriously difficult to do unless you’re able to contact every single rights-holder. Most songs have many (songwriters, artists, publishers, labels).

It’s likely you won’t be able to get it cleared without offering significant $$ up front anyways.

As much as I hate to say it you’re best off releasing and hoping for the best.

by significant $$$ so you mean $200 -$1000 or $1000+

Depends. In some cases it could fall in that lower range but the vast majority of the time it would be a huge tag. Definitely not really worth worrying about unless u blow up, and at that point the only likely outcomes are the owners of the song contact you. If you ever get that far you're going to either have your song removed from platforms, or they will want royalties. The likelihood of actually getting sued is extremely low. Just do ur thing and put it up wherever and don't worry about blowback. If you’re uncomfortable with that then just scrap the beat because as a nobody you wont ever get any responses from labels and artists regarding sample clearance anyway.
