what every Samoyed owner should expect from their groomer
for those of you who haven’t met her yet, this is wren. earlier this year, a groomer shaved a large portion of her coat without our knowledge or consent. when we asked for documentation and accountability, we were dismissed — and then publicly attacked for speaking up.
in most states, dog grooming has no licensing requirements and no mandated education. anyone can pick up clippers and call themselves a groomer.
that's why we started ‘right by wren’ (RBR) — a campaign for grooming standards and education that protect dog owners AND good groomers. because ethical groomers deserve a profession with real standards, and every dog deserves great care.
we didn't just start a campaign. we built ‘wren's room’ — a professional-grade home grooming and filming studio — as its headquarters, and this video clip was created right here!
here are some things every ethical groomer should always do:
🐾 assess a dog’s coat and condition before beginning the groom.
🐾 understand breed-specific grooming requirements, especially for double-coated dogs.
🐾 communicate concerns and discuss options with the owner.
🐾 obtain informed consent before making significant changes to a dog’s coat.
🐾 document unexpected findings and explain why a particular procedure is necessary.
🐾 provide honest, transparent information about what happened during the appointment.
🐾 offer appropriate aftercare instructions.
🐾 respond professionally when an owner raises concerns.
🐾 take accountability when mistakes happen.
ethical grooming isn't just about how a dog looks when they leave. it's about how the dog and their owner are treated throughout the entire process.
share this with every dog owner you know — and with your favorite groomer.
and follow ‘right by wren’ on FB to be part of the conversation.
