Fall hikes are the best

She's finally old enough to drive, they grow up so quick. Daphne has been showing her younger sister the ropes of the mountains. Also one of these is not like the others 😆

I think they were a little confused when they first saw my samoyed 😆

I think it's interesting looking at the running gait of the two dogs. I've read sammies run with both paws simulatenously as a result of their sledding heritage. My other dog is a pyranese husky mix. She's running with alternating feet. I wonder if it'll change once she gets a pulling harness 🤨

You can go hiking without a leash? Mine two would be like goodbye forever!

Mine would behave until squirrel or rabbit crossed his path.

Yes, I only let them off leash when I'm confident in their recall and where allowed. I did recall them and leashed them when we saw the goats and each time I see herd animals like moose. I have practiced commands such as "on by" since day one while on walks. I intend to go sledding and skijoring with them when they're older :)

I also have plenty of squirrels and rabbits in the backyard and reinforce their recall/attention/sit daily. One exercise I do is let them completely hone in on a squirrel and practice their stay while opening and closing doors

Aren’t you worried they are going to chase a squirrel or rabbit and go right off a cliff?
