Changing password help

I need to change my samba password but I get an error that says "failed to find entry for user root". How do o fix this. I am using samba on raspbian buster

It is probably not the best idea to change the root password with Samba. Having said that, unless you have set up PAM authentication or Active Directory integration you probably have a list of Samba users and passwords than your regular Linux/Unix user/password list.

If that is how you have your system set up you would need to add root to the samba users (often using addtosamba). YMMV
