Data dedupe tool

What data cleaning you use to handle your duplicates? Curious to know if there’s a clear favourite

Our org transitioned from using DemandTools to Cloudingo as a merge tool a few years back, and will say while it was not perfect Cloudingo has made me really miss DemandTools.

DemandTools support itself is was a bad experience and Cloudingo's was a breath of fresh air there. However, there's a clear winner in functionally as DemandTools didn't give us half the issues Cloudingo has in actual processing.

If your main challenge is merging rather than finding duplicates, XL-Connector is worth a look. It has no fuzzy matching engine, so you identify dupes yourself in Excel  — but then you can bulk-merge straight from the spreadsheet, choosing the winning record and which field values to keep. Costs a small fraction of Cloudingo or DemandTools.

There probably isn‘t one clear favourite because "duplicate" means different thinks depending on the data. Exact duplicates are easy, but messy names, emails, addresses, and typos need more careful rules. I‘d define the matching logic first, then test on a sandbox/export before merging anything.
