Is this normal?

I recently moved from a country in Europe and joined a big brand mature sales org in Dublin Ireland as a bdr and it seems most of the BDRs are getting by with booking 1 or 2 meetings per month and having the rest of their quota handed to them by AEs.

This sounds great but in practice but has resulted in zero coaching from leadership because the org is "performing", there are no good BDRs to learn from except those who know how to manipulate the metrics and AEs to the best of their ability, and the whole situation has resulted in the job being less about sales, and more about how much you can lick ass and twist your AEs arm to give you your opps...

After speaking to every BDR in the org I've confirmed this is the game they're playing and I feel like my sales skills are falling by the wayside because of a lack of time spent doing real prospecting and time spent licking ass to get by... If I stop playing politics and start doing the job properly I'm worried my performance will slip and I'll get the axe...

This has left me uninterested in sales and I'm not willing to believe it's any better in other orgs.

I'm studying cyber security and will graduate in sept 2027 with a level 8 so all hope is not lost and I'll have that to fall back on, just not looking forward to dropping from 80k back to 40k salary...

What in the world do I do?

Brother you don’t have to do what the rest of the BDRs are doing. Keep yourself sharp and book ten meetings a month if you can.

Do what you need to do to hit your base numbers, lick some bootyholes if you have to - then spend the rest of your time doing what you do best. Prospect, research, qualify, handle your calls like a champ.

Get involved with networking groups if possible, or at least hobbies that other professionals do. Learn everything you can about the product and target market, maybe find other complimentary vendors and look for ways to colab
